    Rams Jerseys Remembered. Part I / IV: Numbers 0 - 25.

Dear Rams aficionados / ClanRam faithful,

    Alright! February 2012.

Fan extra activity to play with (consider it a mild therapy to help ease the pain of the offseason).

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Not every player that is accepted by a team, ANY TEAM, turns out to be a reason to be proud, unfortunately. I'm referring to us as fans or for that matter, the team itself. But the fact is, these players below donned our Rams jersey and even if for a fleeting moment, they were warriors in battle, professionals in the NFL; maybe their 15 seconds of fame.

This list pretends to remember both hero as well as helper of past and present Rams teams, from HOF Super Stars to the obscure, forgotten names. See if you notice a jersey name / number missing but please don't get carried away -- let others participate, yes?

Would appreciate your help in updating this to last year. Just post your players (from 1946 to 2011) and I'll place him on the list.

The list is divided by 25s or, four parts. This here is I / IV.

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

From the 'JERSEYS' thread initiated five years ago, this here is the main ingredient, the nitty gritty, the JERSEY NUMBERS and the PLAYERS who sported them as far back as 1946 and as recently as 2011. I thought of including the Cleveland Rams but that is simply too far beyond my scope / time.

Let's see then if we can update the list w/names currently missing -- shall we?

    >> We're one of the few teams in pro sports to cover ALL #s 0-99.

    RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED

NOTE: with a few exceptions from those that came from the Cleveland Rams era and played in L.A., (indicated by a ~, see also other symbol legends at top and bottom of list), the compilation contemplates Ram players from the Los Angeles and St. Louis teams only, i.e., 1946 through 2011.

Though "unofficial", over 95% of entries below have been carefully checked and confirmed through the research, memory and love of the Rams fans that have followed and supported their team of over half a century. NFL RAMS: history and passion!

Listed are Rams players with at least

    Re: Rams Jerseys Remembered. Part I / IV: Numbers 0 - 25.

Kurt Warner was signed by the RAMS during Christmas week of 1997, after our season was over. The Jim Thomas (IIRC) article referred to him as Curt Warner. Does this qualify as 1997 or 1998?

    Close call. Thanks for asking.

IMHO, since our future HOF QB didn't play a regular season game until '98 (one BTW), that's the first year when Kurt Warner is officially considered an active NFL player, which just so happens, was with the Rams. Fortunately indeed. Then the following year, well, beautiful history was made; a season for the ages.

Continuing to update this Part I of IV (jersey numbers 0 - 25), I've also added AJ Feeley with No. 4.

Marquis Johnson played CB but was injured in his rookie year, 2010; played also last year. Jersey 25.

There are Rams players missing on these four lists. Let me know who they are.

    Re: Rams Jerseys Remembered. Part I / IV: Numbers 0 - 25.

In week 12 last year WR Nick Miller added a touch of excitement -- just a touch -- in game vs AZ when he scored on an 88 yard punt return. It was, alas, just a drop in the bucket of Rams highlights. Then, of course, he's currently under suspension for PED. Good grief!

But, okay, maybe he'll get his act together and make himself proud to be on our list here in the Clan.

Now, what other players are missing? You've got names-a-plenty from Rams teams since 1946.

Okay, you didn't notice him missing -- or just didn't want to post -- fine, I will. Ha!

That's the whole idea here, Rams w/at least one Reg. season game; 2011 and 65 years back.

QB Kellen Clemens, jersey No. 10. Maybe some day he will tell a story to his grandkids about how he once played with the STL Rams, when times were really tough for the team, "and we didn't win many games."

Rams No. 29 in 1965 was Flanker Tommy McDonald. Clic on image below.

Heroes of the past: Dick 'Scooter' Bass, a very reliable RB. Played his entire NFL career with the Rams, from 1960-69. His No. 22 jersey was famous during those 10 years.

This one goes way back ... to zero. Here's your No. 0 jersey player, HB Steve Bagarus who played with the Rams in 1947. In college he played for Notre Dame with a No. 00 football jersey and someday day I might find a picture in a book with him in Rams uniform displaying that curious 0.

    Re: Rams Jerseys Remembered. Part I / IV: Numbers 0 - 25.

    So numbers don't lie.

Pictured below with autograph is Rams RB Tom Moore -- he played only one year with us, 1966. He's got jersey No. 25.

As confirmed reference, standing on the sideline are, without helmet, rookie G Tom Mack (1966-78, a great guard BTW [HOF], but apparently taking a breather here or out for a special running play), his famous No. was 65; next to him with No. 79 is DE Bruce Anderson (1966); next to him, partially out of frame and one knee down is punter Jon Kilgore (1965-67) with No. 13; Roman Gabriel, the Rams excellent QB is No. 18 (1962-72). Green Bay's No. 87 is Willie Davis, hanging on to Moore's shirt while trying to put a quick stop to that play (Rams should have left Mack in).

One, a lonely number. Mike Lansford, very good place kicker, barefoot, mustache and all. Played his entire NFL career with the Rams and made some memorable clutch FGs.

Isnt the above picture, Lansford winning the game in OT v the Saints, on Sunday night football. Back in the early ninety's.? Flipper Anderson's big game v the Saints. This game will always stick in my mind. The Rams have been a bad team over the years, but they have also give us some exciting moments. The amount of holding penalties the Rams had to overcome was crazy. Jim Everett was Mr "Cluth" that night on 3rd down. An amazing game and great memories, RealRam.

Yes indeed GD39, that was the game in N.O.! Nov. 26, 1989. Rams won 20-17 in OT with that exciting FG from Lansford. Flipper Anderson had the game of his life, setting a still-standing NFL record for most receiving yards in a game, 336, via 15 passes from Everett.

    One and only 2?

To my knowledge, Punter Mike Horan has been our only player to wear No. 2. He played two years -- of course -- in 1997 and then with the SB Champion team in '99.

Please tell me if you know of another Rams player with No. 2 jersery (from 1946 on). Thx!

Horan in action with Rams, ca. 1997.

    Re: Rams Jerseys Remembered. Part I / IV: Numbers 0 - 25.

Years of agony. Unfortunate for QB Jamie Martin -- and for us -- his three tenures with the Ram were not exactly stellar (1993-96; 01-02; 04-05). He had me kicking chairs during more than one game, but ouch, those were dreadful times for us, no doubt.

He did manage, however, to wear the most jersey numbers with the same team (I'm still unsure if this is one of those dubious "most").

    I've got him with numbers 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. ...Is that even possible?
