Rams-Jets postgame: Pluses, minuses, key stats and more

Pluses: Improved run defense. . .strong running by Samkon Gado and Antonio Pittman. . .good kickoff and punt coverage. . .big plays down the stretch by the rookies (Brooks Foster, Keith Null, Sean Walker).

Minuses: Two missed tackles by backup safety David Roach. . .what appeared to be a blown coverage by backup safety Todd Johnson. . .2-for-12 third-down conversion rate for offense. . .6-for-13 third-down conversion rate for defense. . .blitz pickup in general.

Key stat: Playing against a Jets team that ranked among the NFLís top 10 in run defense and rushing offense, the Rams outgained the New Yorkers 193 yards to 102 on the ground.

Key play: With the Jets driving for a potential game-winning TD or game-tying field goal late in the fourth quarter, DE Ian Campbell hit Jets QB Erik Ainge from the front and DE Eric Moore knocked the ball loose from behind. The result was a fumble and a 19-yard loss, leaving the Jets in a fourth-and-31 dilemma from the St. Louis 42. (They didnít convert.)

Injuries: LG Jacob Bell (blow to head); QB Brock Berlin (tweaked knee). Neither was thought to be serious after the game, but both players will get checked out again back in St. Louis.

In the house: NFL Hall of Famer Howie Long was on hand to watch his son (Rams DE Chris Long) play.

Whatís next: The players are off Saturday before returning to the practice field Sunday. The preseason home opener is next Friday against Atlanta.
