1.) Defending the run. After giving up 215 yards rushing, and 6.3 yards a clip
against San Diego, the Rams need a much stronger showing by their front seven
against Detroit and 1,000-yard rusher Kevin Jones.
2.) On guard. Tom Nutten returns to the starting lineup at left guard,
replacing rookie Claude Terrell; right guard Adam Timmerman makes his
exhibition debut, testing his surgically repaired foot.
3.) Revamped secondary. Adam Archuleta is back at strong safety ahead of rookie
Jerome Carter; Michael Hawthorne moves into the starting lineup at free safety;
and Corey Ivy is the nickel back.
4.) Green means go. Newcomer Brandon Green has been so impressive at right
defensive end that he gets the start tonight ahead of Anthony Hargrove. Can
Green hold on to the job? Or will Hargrove re-assert himself?
5.) Who's No. 3? The battle for the third QB spot appears to be dead even
between Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jeff Smoker. In fact, Fitzpatrick could be ahead
after his 78-yard TD pass last week to Kevin Curtis.
