Rams Looking For Help At LB

Rams looking for help at LB

    BY JIM THOMAS
    Tuesday, November 8, 2011

With injuries to Bryan Kehl (ankle) and Josh Hull (hamstring) over the last week, the St. Louis Rams are down to four healthy linebackers. So the team brought in street free agents David Nixon and Chase Blackburn for visits and tryouts on Tuesday. They're likely to sign at least one of those two in time for practice Wednesday to help on special teams this week against Cleveland.

Nixon, a third-year player from BYU, spent the second half of last season with the Rams. He was on the Rams' practice squad for five weeks, and then spent the last four weeks on the active roster, appearing in one game (Dec. 12 vs. New Orleans).

Blackburn, 28, spent his first six NFL seasons with the New York Gaints, including the 2007 and '08 campaigns there with Steve Spagnuolo. Blackburn (6-3, 247) was known mainly for his special teams work with the Giants, but did start 17 games there from 2005-10.

***The Rams made a move on the practice squad level Tuesday, releasing wide receiver Kris Adams and replacing him with wide receiver/return man David Gilreath.

Gilreath is a rookie from Wisconsin who was in training camp with Indianapolis this summer. With Greg Salas' season-ending broken leg, the Rams are down to only one punt return man (Austin Pettis), so Gilreath could provide some insurance.

I'll try left tackle. Wide, but not mobile; and they better be rotating me out.

100% guaranteed not to jump offsides.
    Tell me when it's over,

Re: Rams Looking For Help At LB

Other than the 2 weeks where we had to go find Gordy and Stewart., I think our Defense has been pretty solid . We have played some of the NFL's best teams, and our offense doesn't stay on the field long.

Stewart has been great and I really like our CB depth with Murphy, Bartell, Gordy, Stewart, Fletcher sounds great (maybe Harris too) -- Mikell is very good....so we simply need to add a freak athlete at safety and our secondary looks very good .......

Our LB core needs another player next year along with a DT -- so we need 3 players on defense for next season, but overall we are pretty good defensively...

Rams fans shouldn't be too mad here, we just need add some young players on defense with speed and strength and should be good
