Rams Need to Shut Down Bradford for 2012 Season
Bernie's Bits
July 17, 2012
After a few peaceful months as the Rams' new head coach, Jeff Fisher is facing his first crisis.
It has come to light that Sam Bradford's ankle, which he injured in 2011, is not yet 100%. My unnamed inside sources have concluded that, because Bradford has not specified the exact percentage of recovery, it must be presumed that he is only 50% healed at this time.
As the injury occurred approximately nine months ago, this means that Bradford will not be 100% until April of 2013.
The Rams have too much invested in Bradford to play him at 50% capacity, so they should shut him down for the entire 2012 season.
There are several benefits that would result from this move. First, the Rams would be able to start Kellen Clemens, who is already familiar with Brian Schottenheimer's offense. In fact, given his history with Schott, one could argue that Clemens is already the top QB on the Rams' depth chart.
The second benefit is that Bradford's health will be determined shortly before the 2013 NFL draft. If his ankle is still less than 100% at that time, the Rams could use their two draft choices to trade up and select USC's Matt Barkley as their QB of the future. This would be a popular choice given the likelihood that the Rams will soon be playing in Los Angeles.
So it seems that the Sam Bradford era has ended already in St. Louis. Another failure for the Rams.
Cheers.

Well, he certainly needs to be shut down until he's fit to play at a level we all expect from him. But hopefully that's just another month or so.
