    Rams Offseason 2007

    2007 St. Louis Rams Off-season

This theme of this off-season plan is youth and size. The Rams are an aging team and need to get young in a hurry to avoid the dreaded word of rebuilding. The Rams also have to get size along the front seven. Witherspoon needs to go back to the outside and a run stuffing MLB needs to be found. Also at the DT spot more size to stop the run is absolutely necessary.

    Release/ Not Resign
    -OG Adam Timmerman
    -C Andy McCollum
    -RB Marshall Faulk
    -DT Jason Fisk
    -LB Dwayne Carpenter
    -S Dwayne Carpenter
    -WR Dane Looker

    Resign
    -LB Brandon Chillar
    -DE Brandon Green
    -TE Aaron Walker
    -RB Tony Fischer
    -RB Stephen Davis
    -WR Kevin Curtis
    -WR Shaun MacDonald
    -OT Todd Stussie
    -OG Adam Goldberg
    -P Turk

    Extend/Restructure
-QB Marc Bulger [4 years 12SB/40 million]
-RB Steven Jackson [6 years 13SB/48 million]
    -DT LaRoi Glover [Restructure]
    -S Cory Cahvous [Restructure]

    Sign
-LB Kawika Mitchell [5 year 8SB/20 million]
    -S Ken Hamlin [6 year 10SB/24million]
-DT Tommy Kelly [6 year 10SB/28 million]
-OG Derrick Dockery [5 year 8SB/20 million]

    Trade
-St. Louis trades 2[42] to Oakland for DT Tommy Kelly.

    Draft
    1[10] DE LaMarr Woodley [Michigan] 62 268lbs.
Woodley provides the Rams with the speed and intensity that the Rams defense has been lacking this year. He provides a compliment to Little and racked up 11 sacks versus some very good big ten tackles.

    2[42] Traded

    3[74] S Josh Gattis [Wake Forest] 61 210lbs.
A safety with great speed and ball skills that can be groomed as a FS. He will provide the cover skills that Chavour and Atogwe do not bring to the table.

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sco...oshgattis.html

    4. OT Cory Hilliard [Oklahoma St.] 65 325lbs.
-A big OT/OG tweener that will provide depth behind a young and developing OL.

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sco...yhilliard.html

    5. WR Matt Trannon [Michigan St.] 66 215lbs.
-Trannon is the big target that the Rams need. The Rams have a lot of WRs under 6 and Trannon bucks the trend providing youth and a size.

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sco...tttrannon.html

    5. LB Oscar Lua [USC] 6 240lbs.
-Lua might not have the physical skills that you look for but he is a leader on the field and tough run stuffing LB that the Rams do not have on the roster.

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sco.../oscarlua.html

    6. RB/KR Garrett Wolf [Northern Illinois]
-The Rams have nothing to speak of in terms kick return ability. Wolfe does not have the size to play running back but he can create in the kicking game.

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sco...rettwolfe.html

    7. DT Jeremy Clark [Alabama]
-He provides more size to a front seven that has been crippled by its lack of size.

Tommy Kelly is truly worth a second round draft pick? I am not saying that to say you're wrong, I am asking, I have no idea if he's good or not. lol

IMO, not at all. That'd be a huge steal for the Raiders.

Tommy Kelly would be worth a 2nd round pick.

He is 26, 6'6" 300lbs. his stats for the last two years

    2005: 45 tackles and 4.5 sacks
    2006: 61 tackles and 3.5 sacks

there is no stat for how often a player draws a double team or takes up blockers to free up his LBs and other linemen.

The fact that he put up decent numbers in the shadow of Derrick Burgess and Warren Sapp isn't a very strong argument as to why he's worth a high second round pick, IMO.

Would try and keep Curtis if we can afford to,but money could be better used elsewhere especially on the defensive side of the ball...I wouldn't bother signing McDonald he hasn't done much for us and is under-sized...:l

Chillar may not be a starter, but he could be an above average back-up
