Rams' Offseason Fails To Impress Vegas

Rams' offseason fails to impress Vegas

5 hours ago • By Jim Thomas jthomas@post-dispatch.com

Despite the addition of two high-priced free agents (Jake Long, Jared Cook), and a draft that has Rams fans buzzing, Las Vegas doesn’t think much of the Rams’ offseason.

The post-draft odds of winning the Super Bowl at the end of next season are 60 to 1 for the Rams, according to R.J. Bell of Pregame.com. Only eight teams in the NFL have longer odds than the Rams, with Jacksonville and Oakland bringing up the rear — both at 200 to 1.

San Francisco is the Super Bowl favorite at 6 to 1, with Seattle fourth at 9 to 1. Yes, the NFC West will be tough.

Vegas is more optimistic when it comes to Rams rookie wide receiver Tavon Austin and the impact he will have as a rookie. According to Bovada.lv, the over-under on Austin’s receiving yards in 2013 is 800 — a pretty big number for a rookie. The over-under on Austin’s receiving touchdowns is 4˝.

    ‘CAMP ARM’ ADDED

Quarterback Tim Jenkins of Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., has been signed on a tryout basis for next week’s rookie minicamp at Rams Park.

Jenkins appeared in only six games last season because of injuries, completing 161 of 301 passes for 1,817 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. Over his four-year college career, Jenkins finished third in Fort Lewis history in passing yards (8,857), fourth in TD passes (47) and second in completion percentage (58.3).

Fort Lewis is an NCAA Division II school with an enrollment of 3,856. The Skyhawks haven’t had much luck on the gridiron lately, going 0-10 in 2012 and 8-34 over Jenkins’ career. Jenkins was invited to the Casino del Sol all-star game in Tucson, Ariz., after this season. He threw for a career-high 501 yards in a loss to Colorado State-Pueblo last season.

Jenkins lists “throwing routes” as his hobby and says the farthest east he has ever been is Nebraska. That’s about to change.

    ANOTHER TRYOUT

The Rams have also signed Joseph LeBeau of Jackson State on a minicamp tryout basis. A defensive end in college, LeBeau had 26 sacks and 48 tackles for loss over his college career. He will be tried at outside linebacker by the Rams.

The rookie minicamp is scheduled for May 10-12. So far, the Rams have either signed or agreed to terms with 22 rookie free agents, which puts their overall roster at 81 players — or nine below the 90-man limit. In addition, they are bringing in at least six undrafted players on a tryout basis at the minicamp.

    FUTURE JOURNALISTS?

Five former Rams will participate in the NFL’s Sports Journalism and Communications Boot Camp, set for May 13-16 at Bowling Green State University: Eric Crouch, Leger Douzable, Jamie Duncan, Tyoka Jackson and Brady Poppinga.

I thought VegasRam liked our draft.

    What gives?

I like that over/under on Austin's TDs, though (bet the over!)

These the same Las Wages experts that took it on the chin for all the missed spreads last year? If so, likely there will be a few job openings in Neveda's gaming industry

Respect must be earned. We will prove Vegas and the world wrong this year by making the playoffs. It is just a matter of what we do once we reach the four game tournament.

    Sometimes they just don't listen.

(Did put $50 on them at 75-1 a month ago - that'll teach 'em.)

I'd probably take the under on Austin's yardage and the over on the TDs. 800 yards is an agressive number to hit for a rookie. I like the encouragement though!
