I'm going to have to say Jeff Robinson and Roland Williams in 99.

But we have had NOTHING like a McMichael. The guy is going to be a stud for us! Cant wait to see him in a Ram uniform!

Billy Truax back in the George Allen era in the '60s was a pretty decent TE; but of course 'ol George ran the ball about 65% of the time so his catches were limited. Bob Klein in the 70's was an excellent blocker; but, once again, due to the running nature of the "Ground Chuck" Knox offense he was unable to put up significant numbers. I have to agree with L.A. RamFan that we haven't seen a TE as talented as McMichael on the Rams like maybe forever.

In terms of receiving I don't think I've seen a better TE in a Rams uniform. The only one I would compare would be Ernie Conwell, he was pretty good (on a team with so many receiving options as we had in the GSOT years it would be very hard for a TE to get more catches than Conwell had, but he was pretty solid when we sent the ball his way I think). However admittedly I haven't been a fan as long as some of the old-timers around here so I may be overlooking someone, but in my time McMichael looks like the best receiving TE we've had.

Pete Holahan is the best one I can remeber from the 80's. He was a very good recieving TE, but I think McMichael is the best TE we have ever added to our team if he lives up to his stats he's accumulated so far.

Pete was a solid TE, but I think McMichael is more of a threat down field.

I think the Tight End signing might mean the end for Byrd if he doesnt get his act together.

i certainly hope so, this guy was a problem in college, and was drafted for his potential.can you imagine if in his place we drafted another de, dt, or even a wr.that has been the only black mark on this draft class i've seen .

Crazyhorns, you brought up an interesting, debatable question on 'dominating' TE donning the Rams uniform.

It would perhaps be hard to name one of our Ram TE in the class of a modern day Gates from the Chargers or Gonzales of the Chiefs; or, for that matter, one John Mackey -- the great Colts TE of 40 years ago and now a HOF.

But as mentioned above by several, we've undoubtedly had some mighty fine TEs!
    :r

I totally agree, e.g., with RAMarkable regarding Billy Truax: great TE blocker and receiver from 1964-70 --> http://www.footballcardgallery.com/1970+Topps/18/. One of my all-time Ram favorites. Bob Klein, yes, very good TE too.

L.A.RamFan brought up Jeff Robinson, an excellent -- actually underrated -- TE (slash long snapper). I too liked Roland Williams, Pete Hollohan, and, of course, Ernie Conwell, all solid TEs. Again, probably not under the category of 'dominating' but certainly excellent by Ram standards.

I hope McMichael will be as productive a TE as he was in Miami ... or better.

Best Ram receiving TE: Pete Holohan

Honorable Mention: Billy Truax, Marlin McKeever, Leon Clark

We've never had a recieving Tight End like this in my opinion, but we've definately had some good blocking tight ends.

Holohan was the best TE ever for the Rams. For you recent fans, the combo of Conwell/Williams was very important for the GSOT.
