This was the right decision, and not surprising. The contract signed last year was a band aid, and set up a situation that could not be sustained.

Hopefully, he'll return under terms more appropriate for a player of his caliber.

If not, let's not pretend he can't be replaced.

    That's right on the money!

I agree that this probably shouldn't be a surprise, but I guess I was in denial that this would happen. I trust that the FO knows what they're doing. After all, we can't say John Shaw is behind this. Unless he wanted to stick it to everybody one last time on his way out. Or maybe it's because he didn't want to be called OJ anymore and people got tired of having to say Oshimigo.

Maybe they can work something out.

This is not good. OJ was a ball hawk back there at FS for us. I don't understand this move.

What's not to understand? He's not worth an $8M roster bonus. He's not worth the $11.5M he'd be owed over the next 12 months.

The real problem is that the two sides couldn't agree to a reasonable deal last year and, instead, signed a contract that rendered this move inevitable.

I am going to wait on this. I am going to go with my belief all things stupid have stopped on the Rams FO. This will work out favorably for Rams and OJ.

Money talks, I guess, and the Rams were listening today. I'd like to see O.J., arguably our best defensive back and a bona fide playmaker, return with a new contract next season. I don't think the Rams were looking to create a hole, but that what they've done. I'll be sad to see him sign elsewhere.

They are ,however we could possibly move Bartell to safety and then use either one
at the corner. If either one is still available I'd lean towards Peterson. Unfortunatley I
believe we have to address our need for a wide receiver ( hopefully Julio Jones out of Alabama) So you are right that it would be very unlikely that they would be around for our 2nd. rd. pick.

You're right buddy. I really hope he's back here next year with a new contract. I could not see him leaving...it would really disappoint me.

    Re: Rams release Atogwe

Atogwe was a great leader and a valuable player. However, to say he is a top safety in the league is a bit of a stretch. If we can re-sign him to a completely new deal, that would be optimal, but he isn't someone we definitely cannot replace.

Agreed. I actually think Demoff did well to get OJ on the field without using the inflammatory tag and/or missing any time, unlike Mankins & V-Jax, for egs. The future financial landscape of the NFL is even less clear than last year so I don't see how anyone CAN be signed to a long term deal. It's upsetting to have to expose a valuable player- how valuable is open for debate. 11.5 mill certainly seems a wee bit excessive, imo - but I don't think it's reasonable to be critical of the Rams or OJ here; the information just isn't there for either side to make a convincing case as to what his market value might be.

Patrick Peterson has about as much chance of falling to #14 as Av does of taking over in Egypt.

    Re: Rams release Atogwe

Atogwe told the PD that he wouldn't shop around for a new team before the lockout hits. He also said that he and his agent have a good relationship with the Rams, and that it shouldn't be to hard to get a new deal.
