Rams update: 'Rok' Watkins gets first start at guard BY JIM THOMAS
With Harvey Dahl sidelined again by an infection, rookie Rokevious Watkins gets his first Rams start tonight at right guard.
Watkins was a fifth-round pick out of South Carolina last April. So the Rams’ starting offensive line against Baltimore will consist of Scott Wells at center, Barry Richardson and Rodger Saffold at tackle, and Watkins and Quinn Ojinnaka at guard.
Other announced scratches for the Rams: safety Darian Stewart (hamstring), defensive end Eugene Sims (ankle), defensive tackle Darell Scott (knee), and tight end Lance Kendricks (coach’s decision).
The series
Thursday marked only the third preseason meeting between the Rams and the Ravens, with all three contests played in St. Louis. The Ravens lost here 24-10 in 2008 and 27-21 in 2010 in the previous two exhibition contests.
Local line
The Ravens’ roster includes two former Rams, tight end Billy Bajema and guard/center Tony Wragge. Baltimore’s coaching staff includes running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery, who was with the Rams as an assistant from 1997-2005, as well as former Missouri assistant Andy Moeller and former Mizzou player Ted Monachino.
