Rams Report: Smith takes part in 9-on-7 drill

Offensive tackle Jason Smith took a significant step forward Wednesday on the road back from a fractured toe.

Smith took part in a 9-on-7 run-blocking drill, with the St. Louis Rams working in full pads.

Smith was working with the second unit at right tackle. Until Wednesday, Smith had seen very limited action in training camp so far.

The 9-on-7 drill, particularly in full pads, is one of the heaviest contact drills the Rams do in camp. So Smith's participation is an indication that he's on the road back to playing.
