    Massey Signs Four-Year Pact

Long snapper Chris Massey has become an important part of the Rams special teams and added a special ingredient to the team's leadership in his time in St. Louis. That will continue for the next four years as Massey signed a contract extension with the team Tuesday afternoon.

Massey is entering his fifth season in the NFL. He was drafted as a fullback and long snapper out of Marshall in the seventh round of the 2002 draft. But he has earned his paycheck as a long snapper in the league. In his time with the Rams, he has been perfect on snaps and is about as automatic as they come.

Kicker Jeff Wilkins has been one of the league's best in his time with the Rams, something he credits to Massey.

"He kind of gets everything rolling for us and it's such a great feeling when you can go out there and you know you don't have to worry about the snap," Wilkins said. "You know it's going to be there. It just makes my job that much easier."

He also made one start in 2002 as a fullback for the team, though he is generally looked at as a snapper. He also has proved to be an adept tackler on special teams with 25 stops, a high number for a long snapper.

In addition, the Rams signed linebacker Jamal Brooks , a street free agent who last played with the Cleveland Browns. Brooks played in college at Hampton and has spent two seasons in NFL Europe. He played his lone NFL season with Dallas in 2001, when he made 21 tackles on defense and 20 more on special teams.

This truly is great news. One could make the argument that he is the best long snapper in the NFL...

Great news on massey, one of my favorite rams! I still think the only bad snap he has ever had was maybe the most important- i think he was off just a little bit on the 53 yard fg that money missed in OT of the carolina playoff game.

    ramming speed to all

Outstanding news, and I'm very glad we dont have to look for a new snapper.Brown sounds like a Hawthorne thing to me.
