Rams to restructure Randy McMichael's contract?

Rams to restructure Randy McMichael's contract?
    SI.com

Here's some interesting news about the Rams cap situation. Yesterday, the PD's Rams beat writer Jim Thomas was a guest on 1380 AM's The Bernie Miklasz Show, and told Miklasz that the Rams may try and restructure a deal with TE Randy McMichael who has a cap value of $4.4 million this season.

I wonder if that will entail extending McMichael's contract? It would almost have to, in order to get the TE to agree to it. McMichael will be 30 in June, so he should have some tread left on his tires. McM figures to be an important part of the Rams offense under new OC Pat Shurmur. He was sorely missed last season.

McMichael's got to be a little frustrated with his time in St. Louis. Since coming over he's been part of an offense struggling to make things, anything, happen. In his last three seasons with Miami, he had 60 or more catches and 580 yards or more every year. In 2007, his first with the Rams, he had 39 catches for 429 yards and 3 TDs. Last season he had just 11 grabs in four games before being placed on IR with a broken tibia and a torn ligament in his leg.

Think Linehan wants him back? Maybe for a 4th? He has never really impressed me in his time here.

Maybe. But remember that the Wuss Coast Offense that Spags wants to run usually features the Tight End, and this may be a huge opportunity for McMichael to shine. Let's not give up on him just yet. He may really take off in this new offense

    WHAT SAY YE?

I agree, I think McMichael really could shine with this offense.

Poor guy had a new system being implemented both of his years with the Rams. This year will be no different.

anyone who has ever seen him play in Miami knows he's a passionate player and a great te. as it is, Saunders offense never even got off the ground.

Tell you what, Linehan can go after R. Owens all he wants, but i'm glad the scuttlebutt says the Rams are keeping McMichael. He still has a year or two to go with his contract with the Rams i think.

the real question for me is: who do the Rams start at TE if they cut or trade McMichael? it ain't a pretty scenario.... Klop hasn't caught on yet, Rams didn't see enuf of Fells tho he appeared solid in passing situations, and Becht underperformed as a blocker. Rams need McMichael to stick around. hopefully, he's cool with a re-structure that allows the Rams to put a better team around him.

I know we're in a rebuilding mode, but we can't just keep opening up holes without filling in other ones. I hope McMichael can restructure and have a break through year for us.

He was having a pretty good year before injury, I think he can be a good target for Bulger this year. If you look at out current young recievers, he may lead the team in catches if he stays healthy

Even if his contract is not restructured, I think he still has the potential to meet the value of his current contract. I would love to see him have the opportunity to be both utilized and uninjured for an entire season. I seriously doubt that he will be either cut or traded; restructured? maybe... but I truly believe he will be an intricate part of our new offensive strategy.
