Rams Roster, Last Day: How do you count to 53?
Alright...
First Friday in September. Final day for the big roster trimming -- a very difficult task, especially when the numbers are dwindling to only ten or seven players left to select. We've already discussed some names for the 2009 team ... but now ...
How do YOU count to 53?
Without elaborating as to 'why' for now (you can of course), my tentative, incomplete guess / wish list follows:
OFFENSE (26)
QB -- Marc Bulger; Kyle Boller; Brock Berlin
WR -- Donnie Avery; Keenan Burton; Tim Carter; Ronald Curry; Laurent Robinson; Derek Stanley
RB -- Steven Jackson; Mike Carney (FB); Sam Gado; Chris Ogbonnaya; Antonio Pittman
OL -- Alex Barron LT; Jacob Bell, LG; Jason Brown, C; Richie Cogs, RG/C; Jason Smith, RT // Roger Alen III G; Renardo Foster, T; Adam Goldberg, T; John Greco, G; Mark Seterstrom, G
TE -- Randy McMichael; Daniel Fells
DEFENSE (21)
DE -- Victor Adeyanju; Leonard Little; Chris Long; Eric Moore
DT -- Adam Carriker; Clifton Ryan; Darrell Scott
LB -- Quinton Culberson; Larry Grant; James Laurinaitis; Will Witherspoon; David Vobora // K.C. Asiodu [...you go, Ekenemchukwu!]
CB -- Ron Bartell; Quincy Butler; Justin King; Jonathan Wade
S -- Atogwe, Oshiomogho; James Butler; Todd Johnson; David Roach
SPECIAL T (3)
K -- Josh Brown
P -- Donnie Jones
LS -- Chris Massey
PRACTICE SQUAD

As I said, difficult indeed. Help me out!

Clifton Ryan not Ryan Clifton!
We definitely will need another DT and also you cant miss James Hall of the list at DE
Ive not seen anything from Tim Carter to suggest he gets kept
And i doubt we keep four RBs on the roster, and i doubt we keep Pittman over Darby

Re: Rams Roster, Last Day: How do you count to 53?
-I agree with the above poster that James Hall should be in there and another DT (either Gibson or Thomas and maybe both if Carriker is hurt bad).
-I think it's a toss up with Berlin and Null.
-I think that Nate Jones or Sean Walker could unseat Carter or maybe Curry on your list.
-Bajema will be on the roster.
-I think Draft will be on there instead of Culberson
-Fletcher should be included with the CBs. After trading Hill, we should be carrying 5 since all but Bartell are proven.
-Would much rather see Dahl then Roach.

Re: Rams Roster, Last Day: How do you count to 53?
General breakdown in the NFL is:
3 QBs
5 RBs (including FBs)
3 TEs
6 WRs
9 OL
9 DL
7 LB
8 DB
3 ST
Maybe they don't go with a 3rd ST specialist, or they want 4 or 5 TEs like Linehan required! It's a rough guide.

Cut David Roach and keep Bradley Fletcher. Fletcher also played some safety in college before cornerback at Iowa. He's way to good to cut, he's going to turn into a stud.

Adding TE Bajema and veteran LB Draft to the picture = 52 players. // Maybe DT Gibson should be in there too...

i would add James Hall and take off Moore, add Hollis Thomas and Gary Gibson and maybe another unknown DT (that's going to get cut from another team) because the way it looks Carriker will be on IR for the season.
-And i agree with Zinger Dahl is better then Roach.
- I also like Trautwein better then Renardo foster.

A.C. not 'cool' all of a sudden! He's frozen solid. At least injured for 2009 it seems.
I agree with 39's emergency plan: Clifton and Scott are simply going to have to step in, step up strong. DO IT.
Now, is it Gibson's opportunity or, Tomas' last call?

Re: Rams Roster, Last Day: How do you count to 53?
I cant see Roach making the squad and I would say show Todd Johnson the door too. Keep Dahl and maybe pick up a safety from someone else's scrap heap. I would prefer Chamberlain to Culberson at LB. At WR I would go with 5 instead of 6 and send Walker and maybe Jones to the practice squad, this is going to hopefully be a run heavy offense with a limited number of 4 receiver sets and lots of 2 TE then use the extra roster spot for the DL (Ah You?)and if they go with 6 WR maybe they can find a WR/Returner in the last cuts that would help fill what is IMO a glaring hole on this team(returner)

Re: Rams Roster, Last Day: How do you count to 53?
QB
Bulger, Boller, Berlin (triple B's)
RB/FB
S-jax, Karney, Gado, Pittman, Darby
TE
McMichael, Fells, Bajema
OL
Barron, Bell, Brown, Cogs, Smith, Goldberg, Setterstrom, Rodger Allen III, Grecco
WR
Avery, Robinson, Burton, Stanley, Curry
DEFENSE
DL
Long, Adenyanju, Ah You, Ryan, Scott, Hall, Little, Thomas, Gibson
LB
Spoon, Lauranatis, Draft, Vobora, Chamberlin, Grant
CB
Bartell, King, Wade, Fletcher, Butler
S
OJ, Butler, Johnson, Dahl
Special
Massey, Jones, Brown, Parks (KR)
Practice Squad
Null
Ogbonaya
Schuening
Roach
Cord Parks and Rodger Allen are my upsets. Stanley hasn't been good returning, but he is lucky his recieving has improved. Parks has been one of the better returners, but he probably won't make the team after we hit the waiver wire. Allen's strength and size make him a great fit for our new look line. He could start some day especially if our current guards continue to underwhelm. I think we will hit the waiver wire in search for a DT, RB, WR or safety once that happens the first guys off are Cord Parks, Hollis Thomas, Kenneth Darby, Ronald Curry, and Roger Allen (Practice Squad). I wouldn't be surprised to see a name like Reggie Brown instead of Curry or a RB in Darby's spot or a DT Thomas's spot
