Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Another TE, I thought this was a joke when I saw the title. How many TE's do we have? I think we should pick up one more in the draft, maybe our 1st pick.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Byrd and Klop aren't exactly clones of Antonio Gates. I'm sure that Saunders will have a lot of cuts in the upcoming weeks, and seeing how Byrd and Klop haven't really lived up to thier potential, signing Becht makes sense. If you factor in his blocking ability, AND the fact that Saunders has been instrumental in building some kick-butt offenses, AND the fact that he has the #2 (soon to be #1) RB in the NFL to work with, AND one of the most accurate QB's in the game today, then this signing makes a heck of a lot of sense!

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Once agine bad drafting has come back to bite us in the ass...Klop, Byrd,
and Brian were poor, poor, poor, choices. If we get rid of all three, I like
the pickup..

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Get rid of those Byrd and Brian and trade Klop for a draft pick, and this could get a great pick up.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Aaron Walker is a free agent and no longer with the team; the Rams need to replace him as a blocking option, and Becht does that. There's no reason Byrd should be with this team when the regular season starts, so hopefully that gives us three tight ends... which is pretty normal.
Once everyone gets their obligatory joke out of the way, I'm not sure why this move should be that crazy. I doubt Becht cost much money to sign.

THis is tooo funny. I don't know how to go back and look at my recent posts but I stated in at least 3 that I can remember that we were just waiting to grab some more tight ends, and then Losehan answeres the call.... WOW HES dumb.
Hey someone give GW a call and see if he would like to coach the team. We'd be just as successful.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
For one, besides McMichael, our TEs suck. Have you seen Klop try to block? It aint pretty.
2nd, shouldn't we find out the details of the contract before we call this a waste of cap space?
3rd, since when was the head coach 100% responsible for all the hirings and firings? Yes he plays apart, but do you honestly think they just sign who ever Linehan wants?

We have an ageing roster coupled with several mediocre or poor drafts. We do not have the cap space to afford three TE's. We do feature Steven Jackson but we are a passing team that has bigger O-line issues than TE.

Aging roster? We have 3 starters who are "aging" yet can still make pro bowls and one who should prolly be shown the door. Last time I checked 3(we actually have 5 but two are sure to go, and if they dont I agree this is a little weird) TE's was the norm in the NFL yet on clanram this is unacceptable.

No but I don't think that they would just sign someone and then tell Linehan to go coach 'em up. I'm sure he has a reasonable amount of input on free agent signings.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Trying to guess the big picture while it is being painted isn't easy to do. I respect everyone's right to their opinion but it just seems like a mental spinning of the wheels.
Besides...
The Bears, Chargers and Cowboys currently have 4 Tight Ends on their roster.
The Colts and Giants currently have 6.
Will they after the big cut... I don't know... will we... I don't know.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
The fact that we currently have 5 tight ends wouldn't be so laughable if Linehan didn't spend 2nd and 3rd picks on a tight end and then go out and sign another starter for big money the following offseason. It's the epitome of ineffective drafting....
Anyways,
Do you think Saunders will utilize Leonard in an H-Back type role like he did Chris Cooley?
I know that Leonard is considerably smaller than Cooley but reports were that he was planning on putting on a lot of weight this offseason.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
People keep talking about five tight ends, I guess they're counting Richard Owens even though he was brought in to work mostly as a fullback and is listed as such on the official site's roster.
Anyways...

So Linehan should have known in 2006 that Randy McMichael was going to be cut a year later, and not drafted Klopfenstein and Byrd?

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
i think that WALKER was already released a week or so ago , i think! i hope we could scrap byrd . but by some run of luck someone will throw us a 7th rd pick for KLOP and we'll take it and make BYRD the #3 TE. just watch and see .

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Yeah I think its time to cut Klop and Walker.
Randy McMicheal is good, but then again, he is sorta aging.
