Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
I was watching ESPN this morning and Mel Kiper was profiling the draft's best Tight Ends. I wonder if Linehan taped it and will use it as erotica?

LMAO.. The sad thing is he will probably draft one. Then the typical sunshine pumpers will be saying, oh hey we need a young body in camp. Oh we need him. And it's all bullcrap.
We need another tight end like I need another ball. 3-13 team that's signed a kicker, tight end and an offensive linemen that is overrated. Amazing. Amazing.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Oh please. There have been a number of posters who have provided valid and logical reasons for our offseason moves thus far, including Becht's signing. If you disagree with the moves, that's fine. But express that opinion by providing some logic of your own about why they don't make sense or why the reasons provided by others don't hold weight. But responding to that by calling them "sunshine pumpers" is both unfair and completely unnecessary.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Good observation Nick. Obviously some of us posters were getting too used to mocking every and any related word on a TE position for the Rams. It has become tiring and unnecessary as well.
Not to mention some comments of bad taste (post No. 61).
Becht seems to be a totally acceptable TE replacement for Walker. Period.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Sorry, but I found post #61 funny. But I am just funny that way.

I don't consider this pick up our biggest area of need, but it is an addition that may prove beneficial. As long as it doesn't hurt us cap wise, I am okay with it.
But I agree with Nick. If you have a problem with the move, provide facts why you think it will hurt us and what we could have done instead. Not just whine and name call (post #62).This space for rent...

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Agree with Nick entirely.
I've found it strange these days that those pushing for Linehan's dismissal can say pretty much whatever they like, including the material in post #61 and #62, whilst at the same time moaning about other posters right to up upbraid them for it.
The criticism of Bechts signing has been unreasonable, obesessive and in poor taste at times.
He's been signed to upgrade the position and provide added depth. If he doesn't supply that, then he won't make opening day roster. On the basis that plenty of people here have been complaining not only as to the quantity of tight-ends but also their quality, I would have thought any moves to recify that would be welcome.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
I'm not a Linehan basher or whatever but I'm pretty confident in saying that I'd rather Klopfenstein get the shot he deserves. He showed he could play in his first season. His confidence must be dwindling right now.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
The only time on the field I would expect Becht to take away from Klopfenstein is in blocking situations, which really aren't Klop's specialty anyways. Ultimately Klopfenstein's ability to contribute on the field is always going to be limited because we have Randy McMichael, though.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
I dont get why everyone is annoyed
Saunders likes playing out of a 2TE set where he can utilise a power run game. That means at the moment we have a starter and backup for both TE positions in that set. Becht is a blocking specialist, he isnt exactly going to take catches away from anyone, he is there to keep Bulger upright (a priority for the Rams this upcoming season) and to open holes for Jackson.
A lot of users here have to realise the days of playing entirely out of 3 or 4 WR sets are a thing of the past. We have a top running back and a coach that created a great run game in Kansas City. Whereas the GSOT used the pass to set up the run, the Al Saunders led Rams offense will very much be using the run to set up the pass. Yes its a change, but with the personnel we have, its a change we need.

Re: Rams sign another Tight-end
Ha Ha- Glad I could help- just trying to add levity!!!
I think the fact that everyone is missing around here is that we have wasted two relatively high draft picks and free agent bucks on this position already under Linehan and it is a position that has continued to produce very little under him. But I guess he'll get it right eventually, we'll just consider those three acquisitions as mulligans- just like everything else he's done wrong so far...Last edited by moloch41; -03-11-2008 at 05:06 PM.
