Rams sign Cadillac Williams

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Rams are finalizing a deal with former Tampa Bay RB Cadillac Williams today.

One of the better 3rd down RB's to come here to join Norwood and Jackson....Im already frightened for other teams.

I've moved this to Draft & FA pending an actual signing.

I think the combination of Williams and Norwood would be a significant upgrade over what Jackson had behind him in recent years. Williams did a good job in the #2 role during the second half of last season, averaging 6.4 yards per carry in the last 8 games as LaGarrette Blount's backup.

While the signing is not a lock, the Rams wisely aren't stopping their search for a backup running back when they signed Jerious Norwood Tuesday. While Williams and his bionic knees certainly aren't explosive, he'd be capable of carrying a decent-sized workload if Steven Jackson were to go down. Caddy could also end up spelling Jackson on some third downs, but would barely get any early-down reps as long as S-Jax is healthy.

Bad news, though still room for optimism. Per Toni Softli (AV's Favourtie) : " Rams and league sources say while the talks continue with Cadillac Williams they are not even close to getting a deal done. "

I still fully expect the Rams to sign him by the end of today, and if we do, damn this free agency was unbelievable.

The Cadillac signing would certainly make me feel better about the Norwood signing. As Av said, those two additions would represent a colossal upgrade over the Rams' backfield depth since... heck, probably since Faulk was on this team.

That's excellent Jackson, Cadillac and Norwood should make for a good trio and hopefully will help keep Jackson fresh late into games. Devaney seems to have hit every major target this offseason.

AMAZING!!!!!! signing. This guy is a beast. I remember him in Tampa before he got injured. This guy is not that old and can still contribute. Very good signing by Billy D. Jackson is of course the Rams workhorse, but both Cadillac Williams and Jerious Norwood can contribute. What a backfield. That is amazing. I am so happy with the rescent aquisitions.
