Rams sign CB Rod Hood
CB Rod Hood agrees to terms
Veteran help is on the way for the Rams at cornerback. Rod Hood, whose NFL career has spanned eight seasons and includes 47 regular-season starts, has agreed to terms.
He's expected to be on the field for practice Wednesday at Rams Park. Hood, 29, has the kind of size that coach Steve Spagnuolo likes at 5-11, 201. Most recently with Tennessee, Hood missed the entire 2010 season after suffering a knee injury (torn ACL) during OTAs that June.
The Rams have looked at him twice _ he visited Rams Park on Aug. 11 and Sept. 13. The native of Columbus, Ga., played his college ball at Auburn, arriving there as a walk-on wide receiver before being switched to defense.
There is a Spagnuolo connection here because Hood began his NFL career as an undrafted rookie with Philadelphia in 2003. He spent his first four seasons with the Eagles, with Spagnuolo his secondary coach in '03.
Hood had his greatest success with the Arizona Cardinals, starting 30 games over two seasons (2007 and '08). He had five interceptions and 21 pass breakups during the '07 season, earning NFC defensive player of the week honors after a two-interception day in Week 5 against the Rams. Hood returned one of those Gus Frerotte INTs 68 yards for a touchdown in a 34-31 Arizona victory at the Edward Jones Dome.
Hood also had an interception against the Rams in 2008, in a game also played in St. Louis. Overall, Hood has 14 career INTs in 93 regular-season games, three of which he returned for scores.
Hood played for Super Bowl runners-up with Philadelphia (2004 season) and Arizona (2008 season). The Rams have worked out more than a half-dozen cornerbacks over the past three Tuesdays following Ron Bartell's season-ending neck injury in Week 1 against Philadelphia.
They had three corners in for workouts Tuesday: Byran McCann (most recently with Dallas), Jeremy Ware (most recently with Oakland), and Michael Holmes (Chicago). In addition, two wide receivers worked out Tuesday: Chris Brooks (Indianapolis) and Adam Mims (Pittsburgh). None of those players was signed.
To free up a roster spot for Hood, the Rams waived safety Jermale Hines, a fifth-round draft pick in April who had been inactive for each of the Rams' three games. The Rams also waived tight end/fullback Ben Guidugli from the practice squad. So it's possible Hines will be signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers Wednesday.
The team also waived rookie corner Dionte Dinkins from their injured reserve list. Dinkins had suffered a high ankle sprain in the Rams' third preseason game, Aug. 26 against Kansas City. Because he was designated as having a "minor injury" when placed on IR Aug. 30, the Rams were required to release him once he was healthy. The Rams cannot re-sign Dinkins until after the 2011 season.

Welcome Mr. Hood. War Damn Eagle!
If a team won their division seven straight times, that would be a NFL record. Now add on that team did it with seven different QB's in seven straight years, that record is unbeatable. To do that feat, you must of had a great Defense. Jack Youngblood was the captain of that defense.

What is this, 2006? Al Harris and Rod Hood roaming the backfield. At least it's like the 2006 NFC pro bowl...
I believe!

If he gets burned twice for long touchdowns this week, it will still be an improvement.

Re: Rams sign CB Rod Hood
How many CBs do you think there are on the open market right now who are young, perfectly healthy, and starter-quality?

Re: Rams sign CB Rod Hood
In the NFL, 20% of all injuries are knee injuries, and since most players have had multiple injuries, there is a decent chance that any random player in the league has had issues with his knee(s).
We badly need an upgrade, and the fourth week of the season is not an ideal time to find a healthy starter at any position. I am happy that we found someone to backstop our defense.A defeated look of consternation, dissappointment, or even pain. The name derives from the look one often gets when challenged by a large BM.
