Rams sign DT Trevor Laws
https://twitter.com/#!/caplannfl/sta...37363702730752
Rotoworld's take: "A rotational lineman in Philly last season, Laws averaged about 25 snaps per game and recorded 20 tackles with one sack. A 4-3 nose, Laws goes 6-foot-1 and a tick over 300 pounds. He'll compete for playing time next to Kendall Langford. Pro Football Focus has graded Laws as a solid run defender over the past four years. He seemed to plateau after a four-sack 2010 season, though."

Evan Silva of Rotoworld/PFT: "New #Rams DT Trevor Laws was 47th pick in '08 draft. Led Notre Dame in tackles as senior nose tackle. 4-3 NT, will compete next to Langford."

Re: Rams sign DT Trevor Laws
I'm pleasantly surprised with this signing. I don't expect the world from Laws, but he was a player I liked going into the draft in 2008. I'm happy the Rams have turned their attention to addressing the Nose Tackle position, but I don't think this will preclude us from going after a DT early in the draft.

Re: Rams sign DT Trevor Laws
Free agent DT Trevor Laws is not expected back with the Eagles.
The Eagles wanted to extend Laws' contract last offseason, but he had a down year in 2011, failing to excel in Jim Washburn's new Wide-9 scheme. Free agent Derek Landri now seems more likely to return. Laws, 27, is an athletic and active if undersized defensive tackle. He won't struggle to generate interest.

His play might have dropped due to a new scheme lets hope he can regain his form.

I like this signing. I am guessing they will still address DT via draft, and see what Laws can do as a rotational guy.

Nice depth. Solid rotational guy as well.

Re: Rams sign DT Trevor Laws
While the Finnegan and Wells signings are the bigger story, building quality depth with young players like Hayes and Laws will pay dividends too.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Rams sign DT Trevor Laws
Agreed amigo. Right now this looks good, bringing the Lawman in to join Rams D.

DT Trevor Laws, age 26
6-1" 300 lbs.
Notre Dame
OVERVIEW (2008)
With all of the attention heaped upon LSU's Glenn Dorsey and Southern California's Sedrick Ellis, some might be surprised to note Laws is by far and away the most productive defensive tackle eligible for the draft. Utilizing a quick burst, impressive hand technique and a non-stop motor, Laws' team-leading 112 tackles ranks only one behind Steve Niehaus as the most in Irish history from a defensive lineman. A strong performance at the Senior Bowl proved Laws wasn't a product of a leaky Notre Dame defense, but a standout despite it.
ANALYSYS
Strengths
Positives: Short, squatty, powerful build. ... Good initial quickness off the snap to generate an instant advantage on his opponent. ... Quick, strong hands to disengage from defenders. ... Showed significant improvement in this area as a senior. ... Good burst when he clears the line to close on the ballcarrier. ... Most impressive attribute is his non-stop motor. ... Simply doesn't quit on a play. ... Laterally and down-the-field, there may not be a defensive lineman in the country who pursues as passionately or effectively. ... Strong performance throughout the week of practice and the Senior Bowl boosted stock considerably.
Negatives: Lacks preferred size inside. ... Marginal strength to anchor despite his natural leverage advantage. ... Best suited to a three technique position in the 4-3 alignment and may be limited to only that role.Last edited by RealRam; -04-11-2012 at 11:48 PM. Reason: Speleen

I really like this signing. Laws (and Hayes) are a terrific upgrade to our DL depth.

Re: Rams sign DT Trevor Laws
Only in the NFL is a guy who weighs 300 lbs considered "undersized"
