With incentives could be worth 2.9 million. Pile of garbage better be worth the roster spot.

Rams sign Kenny Britt for $1.4M

    Updated: March 31, 2014, 7:35 PM ET
    ESPN.com news services

The St. Louis Rams have signed former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt to a one-year, $1.4M deal, including $550,000 guaranteed, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The maximum value of the deal is $2.9 million, the source said.

Drafted 30th overall in the 2009 draft, Britt wowed the Titans with his ability to get off the press at the line of scrimmage. He caught 42 passes in each of his first two seasons, with nine touchdown catches in 2010.

But he's spiraled downward from there, suffering a torn ACL early in 2010. He has also caused the Titans headaches with multiple off-field incidents that drew police attention.

He looked primed for a big contract year with a solid training camp in 2013, but with early drops and penalty issues he became a non-factor, playing little once he lost his confidence and not dressing for three of the final four games.

So does this mean no need to look at WR in the draft?

One year, incentive laden contract. Makes sense to me.

If you factor in pro-rata portion of signing bonus, Tavon Austin is still the highest paid WR on the Rams.

As for what this means for the Rams' draft plans... I'd say its exceedingly unlikely that they will take a WR (Watkins) at No. 2. I don't think its beyond the realm of possibility that they will take a WR at some point in the draft, but with Britt's addition, we may already have our full WR corps in place.

I say let the WR's we have mature, you add veteran depth and let them mature. 7-9 without your Starting QB and the receivers we have shows promise to me. It could be that this is also a smoke screen, the draft at WR has depth. There could also be a trade on the horizon, you never know.

I think so. At least for the "big splash" draft pick. It is not like we have not drafted WR in first and second round already past few years......

Only a good move if he:

    A) Regains the form he had prior to his knee injuries
    B) Stays off the police blotter

Not overly enthused about this because I agree with AV's prior belief- that we may indeed have our full WR corps in place.

    Re: Rams sign Kenny Britt

Britt is young and talented, and is now playing under a coach who knows him well. Considering his only competition for a starting job right now is probably Quick and Pettis, there's no reason he shouldn't start opposite Givens/Bailey, with Austin in the slot, and Cook at tight end. Really, this power running offense could do a lot worse, especially since it's likely still going to be very run heavy.

As for looking WR in the draft, I think Britt's signing simply gives the Rams a lot more freedom. I think the Watkins pick looks increasingly unlikely, as does a trade up for Mike Evans. Should Evans somehow fall to the Rams with pick 13, then it's time for a discussion. But I think if the Rams made no other real moves at the position, they probably wouldn't feel too bad about that.

Good point. Fisher needs to turn the corner, and win. He obviously wouldn't bring Britt into the equation if he didn't think it was worth the gamble. I'm just going to have to defer to Fisher on this one, and lament the fact that Watkins is now a pipe dream.

Excellent signing. Britt was dominant in his 3rd season prior to tearing his ligaments. He is now back with the coach that took a chance on him and brought him into the league. Sadly, he is also our best WR and seems like he will be our #1. Hopefully he can get back to his dominant self!
