Rams sign rookies CB Murphy, DE Selvie, and LB Hull

    Highest draft pick yet signs
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on June 26, 2010 1:13 PM ET

Cornerback Jerome Murphy of the Rams, taken first in the third round in April, became the earliest drafted player yet to sign on Saturday when he inked a four-year deal.

The contract includes a $937,739 signing bonus, according to a league source. The total deal is worth $2.152 million.

Murphy capped an impressive two-year run as a starter at South Florida in 2009, displaying excellent toughness and passion for the game. Known as a strong press corner, with good awareness, he's been compared to Al Harris.

The Rams plan to use Murphy at cornerback; he played safety at times in college.
    Rams sign Selvie, Hull
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on June 26, 2010 12:49 PM ET

The Rams have started signing their rookies, starting first with the last players selected.

The team inked defensive end George Selvie and linebacker Josh Hull to four-year deals, according to Brian Stull of 101 ESPN.

Hull was known for his high football IQ at Penn State; he'll try to make the team through special teams. Selvie recorded 14.5 sacks as a sophomore at South Florida, but stayed mostly quiet since. The 255-pounder has tried to add weight since being drafted.
Nice start, let's keep those signings coming!

    This just in.

The St. Louis Rams have signed rookie quarterback Sam Bradford to a one-year, $500,000 contract.

I'm guessing the Hull and Selvie signings are for one or two years? Fair enough. I want to see Selvie succeed.

I read four-year deals, unless the post has since been edited.

I read four too, but seeing slevie signed is good cause spags probally saw something because he was supose to of been a top prospect that was overlooked because of his team mate jason pierre paul.

Hmm my mistake I read wrong.

I could see signing Selvie to a four year deal, but Hull?

I was expecting maybe a two year deal at max. Let us see what he has on special teams first before giving him a longer contract.

He does come from Penn State though, so we'll see how well he does in the pre-season.

Actually now that u mention 4 year deal. I wonder where hull fits in at? Cause we already have diggs, the carpenter, and james of course. So I'm not sure where hull would fit into that.

My guess would be third-string MLB, special teams player.

We already have Larry Grant and Chris Chamberlain as second-string OLBs.

David Vobora is supposedly practicing as the second-string MLB.

I watched a lot of video and I don not get the fascination with Selvie? He looks slow and stiff...He just failed to impress to impress me at all. I do hope that he proves me wrong and ends up being a valuable player in the rotation at DE.
Now Hull is the kind of guy I like to route for. Started off a walk on, had a very good college career. He's smart, physical and very stout up the middle. His biggest knocks from the scouts were the fact that he lacks the speed to get to the sidelines constantly to make the tackle.
I think both guys have a lot to prove and that's a good thing. I like guys who play with a chip on their shoulders.

They could have signed him to an 8 year deal - the length of the contract isn't the issue - it's guaranteed money that carries the weight. I doubt the Rams broke the bank on a couple of 7th round picks with regard to guaranteed money. Neither of these players are locks for a roster spot, and if they get cut during camp or when the roster is pared down to the final 53, the length of the contract won't mean squat. On the other hand, if they do make the roster and turn out to be really good players, the Rams will have locked them up very reasonably for several years ...

Exactly. You beat me to it. We don't need to sweat contract length. It can only help us if the players succeed. It won't hurt us if we cancel it early.
