Rams statement about potential sale story
Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando
The Rams will have lots to avoid talking about for the remainder of the offseason -- and beyond -- after Bernie Miklasz's report that the majority owner Chip Rosenbloom is seeking a buyer for the team.
The team did acknowledge one aspect of the report through the following statement, released Monday:
The family of Georgia Frontiere announced today that Goldman, Sachs & Co. has been retained by the family to assist in a strategic review of the assets of her estate, including the St. Louis Rams. There will be no further comment until the review is completed. The initial story, built on information from sources close to Rosenbloom, called out the St. Louis business community for allegedly failing to show enough interest in buying the Rams. The team-issued statement isn't fully accountable to that aspect of the story. It makes me wonder if Rosenbloom already has strong prospects in another city

Re: Rams statement about potential sale story
This all makes me think the entire story is nothing more than imaginary BS. Are the Rams for sale? I'm sure they are, just like almost everything, as long as the price is right. Does this mean they will be putting an ad in the Wall Street Journal stating the team is for sale? I doubt it.
In yet another related story, the Ram that appeared in the Stride gum commercials is for sale - no, wait, that's a rumor. In fact, I just made that up.

It should have been:
The Rams have issued the following statement regarding the potential sale of the team:
Duh!!!!
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Rams statement about potential sale story
An ad in the wall street journal isnt exactly the analogy, but trust me, coming from someone in the business of buying and selling companies, when you retain Goldman Sachs to perform a strategic review of your assets 99% of the time it means that they are putting together an offering memorandum to approach the marketplace of likely buyers in pursuit of a sale. While Goldman performs some valuation analysis, there are plenty of firms that can do that work at a fraction of the cost. Goldman is the premier investment bank at selling assets of this nature. The Rams indeed will be for sale. Whether a buyer will be available that will meet an acceptable price and where that buyer might be located is another story and only time will tell. I do believe that the retention of Goldman adds incremental uncertainty to an already uncertain situation, which might not hurt the Rams, but sure can't help them.

Re: Rams statement about potential sale story
I have said for as long as i have been on ClanRam that the Rams would move.
Do I think they will move, yes, LA, who knows. All I know is I followed the
Rams to St louis. Will you follow them to LA or elsewhere?

Re: Rams statement about potential sale story
One Qstion. Do you think that Spags, Billy, and the rest were told that
if the team was sold that they would be part of the deal? That they would
be who they are now in a different place.. I think so.

Re: Rams statement about potential sale story
If the Rams do move to LA the part I'm looking forward to will be the St. Louis fans demonstration of how a team move is supposed to be handled by the fans. No complaining, no moaning, no b!tc#!ng about the new locale. No sophmoric cheap shots about the new home. Just cheering for the Rams. The way it should be.
That change will be the most positive aspect of a possible move to LA."I'm not going to hide my opinions. They're coming to you between 7000-4000 Angstroms for all the world to see. Oh yes, you will be enlightened."

Re: Rams statement about potential sale story
I loved the Rams in LA, I love the Rams in St. Louis and I will love the Rams where ever they go... although Texas would really make it difficult.
I do, however, have a question for the LA backers and I'm not trying to be mean. Why will it be different this time? Your town has had 3 NFL teams and all 3 have left. What has changed? A new stadium is nice but stadiums don't keep fans coming back.
