ST. LOUIS (AP)—The St. Louis Rams have placed rookie Fendi Onobun(notes) on injured reserve with a back injury that didn’t respond to treatment.

Onobun, a sixth-round pick, had two receptions for 15 yards. He was drafted as a long-range prospect after playing only one season in college at Houston.

The Rams signed tight end Derek Schouman(notes), who was released from injured reserve by the Bills with a knee injury in September.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Wednesday the team didn’t want to push it any longer with Onobun, who had missed the previous four games.

Offensive tackle Rodger Saffold(notes) had limited work coming off an ankle injury. Wide receiver Danario Alexander(notes) returned from minor knee surgery that sidelined him for three weeks, although Spagnuolo said the team would be cautious.

Unfortunate but probably in Onobun's best interest. He'll get another chance next pre-season to show he belongs, but not being able to practice even will set him back.

Schouman hasn't done much of note in the NFL but I did read that he scored the TD to get Boise state within a two point conversion of winning The Fiesta vs Sam's alma mater in '07. That was pre-Sam, of course, but it will make for an interesting moment when someone in the media brings it to his attention.

I really wish we got to see something out of him. I wanted them to play him at WR at some point this year. Hopefully he will be part of the team next year, but I think it's an uphill battle for him.

Curry is another guy I really wanted to see, and was upset when he was added to IR. Curry would be getting a great opportunity right now...if he were still healthy.
