Rams Tied For 7th in NFL Scoring Defense
For a new defense still finding it's way, I couldn't have asked for more at this point. We've given up some big plays here and there, but to be holding opponents to 14.7 points per game is impressive IMO.
"Bend but don't break" has been the style so far, but I expect less bending as the defense as a whole improves and continues to be aggresive and opportunistic.

Re: Rams Tied For 7th in NFL Scoring Defense
Wow. Who would have thought this much this soon?!?
Thanks for the notice. Imagine if our D as a whole does, in effect, improve and continues to be aggressive and opportunistic as you put it!
Watch out! :O

Re: Rams Tied For 7th in NFL Scoring Defense
Don't care how many yards we give up. As long as our Defense steps up and prevents them from scoring. Our D has played very well. We don't let any team really drive on us, its usually two or three big plays a game that lead to them scoring.
On a side note, I'd love to know what our Redzone Defense is.RamsFan16

Re: Rams Tied For 7th in NFL Scoring Defense
I honestly never thought I'd ever see anything like this for the defense. Even bringing in Haslett, I didn't think we'd be in the Top 10. WOW. I am impressed, even if it is just week 3 going on week 4...

Always and Forever a fan of the St. Louis Rams

Re: Rams Tied For 7th in NFL Scoring Defense
It's early in the season but you have to be impressed with a D that, including two divisional road games, can post those kinds of numbers. It speaks of an underlying strength that should serve us well throughout the rest of the season.
The fact that they have more than held their own whilst the O has hardly been dominating is also a hopeful sign.

lest see what the D is ranked at the half way point. That would give us a better indication. But it is looking real good

IMHO, this stat show just how much our Def as/is improving. 14.7 pts per game! say no more! speaks for it's self..

Re: Rams Tied For 7th in NFL Scoring Defense
Again I have to wonder why the NFL officially ranks defenses by yards given up instead of scoring defense. In my opinion scoring defense is the stat that matters, you don't win a lot of games with 500 yards of offense if the defense forces a turnover every time you enter the redzone. We sure have forced a few critical turnovers in the redzone where it really matters and that I think is one of the hallmarks of a great defense - the ability to step it up a notch when it's really needed. That said I don't think we're a top10 defense yet, but the progress has been very impressive so far, can't wait to see the rest of what's up Haslett's sleeve!

Re: Rams Tied For 7th in NFL Scoring Defense
Red Zone is tough to rank because of plays like KW made last week and if a teams offense hands the ball over via the turnover inside their own 20. Also I don't think fg's should figure in the average for scoring D in the Red Zone. Just touchdowns, that's a true measure IMO of how tough your D is in the Red Zone. Reaaly for me total points allowed is the most important stat.
