JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars placed defensive end Reggie Hayward on injured reserve Tuesday, two days after he ruptured his left Achilles' tendon.
Hayward led the team with 81/2 sacks and 59 quarterback pressures last season. He also had 47 tackles and two forced fumbles.
To replace Hayward, the Jags signed rookie defensive tackle Montavious Stanley to their active roster. Stanley had been on the St. Louis Rams' practice squad. A sixth-round pick by Dallas in April, Stanley was waived in final cuts and signed by St. Louis.
The Jags also re-signed offensive tackle Ryan Gibbons to the practice squad after the Rams signed center Brett Romberg to their active roster. St. Louis needed a center after veteran starter Andy McCollum tore two knee ligaments in his left knee Sunday.
Romberg played one game in three-plus seasons with the Jaguars, spending most of this time on the practice squad.
Gibbons was an undrafted rookie free agent from Northeastern who was waived in final cuts.

With Andy McCollum officially placed on reserve/injured with a torn left anterior cruciate ligament and medial cruciate ligament, the Rams made a move to bolster their depth at center on Tuesday by signing Brett Romberg.
Romberg comes to the Rams after spending the last three seasons with Jacksonville. There, he played for current Rams offensive line coach Paul Boudreau. In three years with the Jaguars, Romberg played in one game.
He spent the first 12 weeks of the 2005 season on Jacksonville’s practice squad before being promoted to the active roster on Dec. 9. He was inactive for the final four games of the year and the team’s playoff game against New England.
Romberg’s only game experience came in 2004 when he played in one game, against Tennessee. He spent all of that season on the active roster and was active for six games.
Romberg came to the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Miami in 2003. The 6-3, 293-pounder won the Rimington Award as the nation’s best center as a senior. Romberg started at guard and center for three seasons for the Hurricanes, earning All American honors along the way.
Romberg is expected to be the backup to Larry Turner, who filled in for McCollum when McCollum was lost for the season against the Broncos on Sunday.

Re: Rams trade practice squad players?!

Re: Rams trade practice squad players?!
Centers are a much sought after commodity, which means there are slim pickings to chose from to find a replacement once the season starts. Romberg is probably the best of what's available with out making a bigger trade. Let's hope this works out.

Re: Rams trade practice squad players?!
Romberg was a pretty good player at UMiami. Not a top-notch athlete, but a smart, tough player.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Practice squad players can be signed by any team.
"Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: Rams trade practice squad players?!
We didn't 'trade' practice squad players.
The players go on the 'active' roster of the respective teams.
