Re: Rams Trivia - Share What You Know

One of the most destructive offensive lines in NFL History!
This line would blow defensive linemen 5 yards off the line of scrimmage!

Everyone on this line has been in the Pro Bowl.

This line gave Vince Ferragamo at least 8-10 seconds to pass, great protection!

On power sweeps, Hill & Harrah, two 6-5 guards were like two trucks in full speed!
This line made big holes for Eric Dickerson to run.

France in 1979 was NFL's best offensive tackle, by the NFL Players' Association.
    France was NFL All-Rookie 1975

Slater in the summer of 2001 was named in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Slater was NFC Offensive Lineman of the Year: 1983, 1986 - 87 and 1989

    Saul was a solid player.

Jackie Slater played 20 years for the Rams...taking in the likes of Reggie White and holding his own. I believe the 20 years is an NFL record, as well.

Deacon Jones and Merlin Olsen had nicknames that would call each other...Deacon called Merlin "Muley" and Merlin (and the rest of the team) called Deacon "Swamp Boy".

Hall of Fame head coach George Allen owns the distinction of never having a losing season in 12 years as a head coach in the NFL. What a Ramteam he built, 1966-70!

A very respectful 'Salute!' to Coach Allen.

Founder Homer Marshman and his GM, Damon “Buzz” Wetzel picked the Rams name because Wetzel had said his favorite football team had always been the Fordham Rams and Marshman liked the sound of the name ...

Re: Rams Trivia - Share What You Know

    1995.

...1995, not too long ago, when the Rams moved from L.A. to STL, they did not play at their new stadium (now the Ed Jones) until week 11, when the Panthers went there to lose, 28-17.

For the first 10 weeks of that new season/venture, home games were played at the MLB Busch Stadium which was, of course, already fitted for football; it was where the NFL STL Cardinals played for many years before moving to Arizona.

Re: Rams Trivia - Share What You Know

    Family Rams!

In addition to the asterisk note in the 'Remembering Rams Jerseys Numbers' about brothers Merlin^ and Phil^ Olsen playing DT side by side in the early 70s, I just found out that we had another brother duo playing for us during one same season.

Carey+ and Kyle++ Whittingham both played LB for the Rams in 1987, at least for a few games that year. What's more, their dad, Fred+++ Whittingham also played LB for the Rams in 1964.

    ^ .- Nos. 74 and 72, respectively.
    +, ++, +++ .- Nos. 57, 52 and 55.

Homer Marshman gave the NFL a hot check to pay the Rams franchise fee. Upon returning to Cleveland, he had to get a few backers to put up some money and deposit money into the bank account.

Joe Namath played in four games for the Rams in 1977. However, his aching knees forced him to retire before the season ended.
