From 1961-1967, Deacon Jones was the fastest Ram. He was able to beat RBs, WRs, cornerbacks, everyone. In fact, he used to win a decent amount of money by betting people on the foot races. Finally, age and banged-up knees reduced his speed although he was still one of the fastest defensive linemen until his retirement in 1974.

Good info on the Deacon, Alpha. It's true (and not only because our great DE would say so).

    From NFL Pro Football HOF:

One time Jones was facing the Redskins and Bobby Mitchell, a former Big Ten sprint champ, was blazing down the sideline after catching a pass. Jones caught him, ran along beside him for 10 yards and then knocked him out of bounds. Later, he explained to his coaches that "I just wanted to see if I was as fast as he was."

One more tidbit on the Ramsilver screen.

One of my Ram idols and heroes from the very powerful 1967-68 teams was WR -- or 'Flanker' -- Bernie Casey, No. 25. He was a starter and, along with Jack Snow, one of Roman Gabriel's favorite targets. For his time Bernie was a big, very athletic receiver at 6-4, 215 lbs.

Also a gifted artist* and a poet, Casey is by far the most prolific ex-Ram actor to play minor / major roles in the movies and on TV.

He has taken part in more than 50 films, from 'Revenge of the Nerds' to a couple of James Bond movies, such as 'Never Say Never Again' (as 007's agent buddy Felix).

Casey has a Doctorate in Arts from the internationally recognized Savannah College of Art and Design and is also its Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

*. A talented painter, he has had more than 30 solo exhibitions and some of his artwork can be found on permanent display at the Museum of African American Art in Los Angeles,

Isaac Bruce scored the first TD for the Rams as a St Louis team against the Packers. In fact, Bruce also blocked a kick that game
The Rams won that game at Lambeau field at a time when it was one of the biggest home field advantages in football.
Hopefully more of the same this season when we travel up north.

Rich brooks was the forst Rams coach in St. Louis. Brooks enjoyed success at Oregon as a coach, but was unsuccessful in pulling the Rams out of the 90's nosedive that we all endured.

    LOL!!!!!

The Bull Elephant backfield was a three halfback formation comprised of Dick Hoerner, Paul "Tank" Younger and Deacon Dan Towler. In 1950, the Rams were scheduled to play the ***** two weeks in a row. In the first meeting, the Niners clobbered the Rams. Joe Stydahar, the Rams head coach decided to put the three backs in at the same time to beat the SF defense in the second game.. Two of the backs would block while one ran the ball - but the defense didn't know who would get the ball or who would be blocking. The Rams won and used the formation for the rest of 1950. They advanced to the NFL championship game, losing on a late field goal to Lou "The Toe" Groza and the Cleveland Browns. The Bull Elephant backfield averaged 6 yards a carry through the season.

New Orleans Saints' 1st NFL game (in N.O., Sept. 17, 1967), they lose to the Los Angeles Rams 27-13.

Perhaps it was our initial curse that has kept the Aints from ever succeeding all the way!

The Falcons were also the victim of the Rams in their first ever NFL game by losing 19-14 in 1966. The Rams lead the all-time series 46-25-2.

Avenger, I just noticed you had already mentioned the fact that the Rams held the Seahawks to an incredible 'Minus 7 Total Yds Offense', in Seattle: your post #20, my post #38. Sorry.

    GO RAMS! :-)

Deacon Jones never once scored a defensive touchdown. In one game against the St Louis Cardinals, Merlin Olsen recovered a fumble, and was repeatedly asked by Deacon to give him the ball. Merlin did not relent, and was tackled after a 59 yard gain...but no TD.
