Rams will interview Broncos DC Dennis Allen on Thursday for HC job

Per Rotoworld courtesy of Jim Thomas:

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams will interview Broncos DC Dennis Allen for their head-coaching vacancy on Thursday.

Allen will be the third candidate St. Louis has interviewed, joining Jeff Fisher and Cardinals DC Ray Horton. Obviously, it could be a sign Fisher is leaning toward heading to Miami, though the Rams are still considered a slight favorite for his services. Just 39 years old, Allen has never been a head coach at any level, and is in his first year as a defensive coordinator. Denver's defense finished 2011 ranked 19th in yards allowed and 23rd in points against, but played exceptionally well down the stretch.
The fact that we are setting up an interview for Thursday, tells me all I need to know. Jeff Fisher will not be the next HC of the St Louis Rams. Also, read into the fact that nearly every national reporter is beginning to back off claims that the Rams are the favorites.

Time to get your head in the game now Stan, and bring us the next Tomlin, McCarthy, Payton, etc. I do like Horton, and Cardinal fans are actually hoping we get Fisher over Horton.

Call me Naive... but I find it hard to believe we asked and got permission to interview a Defensive Coordinator of playoff team two days before they face the Patriots? He has nothing better to do than take a day off?

I'm probably wrong but this sounds like crazy talk to me.

And the Dolphins have already interviewed candidates after Fisher left, and have scheduled more interviews. Does that mean Fisher won't coach for the Dolphins either? I can't wait until all this speculation is over, but I don't think that it means anything. Rams just don't want to be caught flat-footed if Fisher chooses to coach for the Dolphins.

Another coordinator with no hc experience? I seriously doubt it ....
If a team won their division seven straight times, that would be a NFL record. Now add on that team did it with seven different QB's in seven straight years, that record is unbeatable. To do that feat, you must of had a great Defense. Jack Youngblood was the captain of that defense.

Not really. Kroenke has been conducting his interviews in Denver. So Allen won't need to travel at all.

The Rams cannot afford to go all in with Fisher and be left with nothing if he chooses Miami. While he's taking his sweet time and enjoying all the attention the Rams are doing what they should be doing: Interviewing other potential candidates. This also puts a little pressure on Fisher to make up his mind because he needs to know that someone else could talk himself into this job while he's contemplating life.

I think Horton will be the guy if Fisher flops. I really don't think Stan will go w/ this Allen guy.

ALSO, I keep reading that the only hold up is the possible relocation. Could it be that Stan won't guarantee that we're not ... [here comes the hate] comin' home?

I've been on the lookout for Horton for a few days now. Very intruiging prospect. Fisher I like, but Horton could become something special. Plus something about the 3-4 really intrigues me.

Maybe it's a way to put some pressure on Fisher to make his decision?

On what basis is Allen being interviewed? For holding an injured and depleted Pittsburgh squad to 23 points Sunday? For getting shellacked at Buffalo a couple of weeks ago? For losing three in a row and backing into the playoffs? Definitely sounds like Allen is the next Vince Lombardi to me.

Hiring Allen after firing Spags would seem to me to be ever so slightly redundant.

Re: Rams will interview Broncos DC Dennis Allen on Thursday for HC job

my top 5 candidates with HC experience would be:

    1.Jeff Fisher
    2.Mike Sherman
    3.Brian Billick
    4.Mike Mularkey
    5.Gregg Williams

the trouble is outside of them 5 there aren't really anybody else with experience who is a realistic possibility.
i`d be fine with anyone of those but outside of that we would have to take a flier on someone who has no HC experience (atleast in the Pros) they've contacted one College HC but he decided not to take the Rams up on the offer of an interview.

that said there`s nothing that i as a fan of another team can see why Allen is a candidate..and think it`s possibly a case of if he wasn't coaching on the doorstep of Stan then he wouldn't be asked in for an interview. just something that can't hurt them by doing it and will atleast put it out there that we haven't put all our eggs in the Fisher basket.

    Ditto to all this.
