i was thinking that the list was in alphabetical order till i remembered the bears but the order it is in dont make much sense any other way!
Adrian Wilson is a beast but Torry`s lil bro might have the name but he aint got the game to warrant such a high rating and thats just the top spot....

cowboys safties are def. better than the cards, we have better safties than the whiners IMO, and how are the redskins rated so high? because they have Laron Landry? he hasnt proven anything yet.

Theres no way that we have better safeties then the whiners. Chavos is on his way out, with a poor performance last season I see his playing days fading in his past.

dude, micheal lewis? come on, he is past his prime, just like chavous he isnt that good,but i think chavous is better than him, didnt micheal lewis lose his starting job last year and never won it back?

Wow. That list is just one big meh. The only names that really stand out are Dawkins and Wilson.

Since when did tackles become the defining stat for DBs? If anything, high tackle numbers for a S are bad because it means RBs are making it into the secondary (ie the front seven can't stop the run) and/or receivers are being tackled after the catch (rather than being covered well enough to force the QB to throw elsewhere or bat the pass away).

I'd say if anybody is going to be judged by number of tackles it'd be safeties. Sure, they drop into coverage sometimes, but they also blitz and play up in the box. They've got a better view of the field than anyone else, and a good safety is fast enough to close in on the ball-carrier quickly. You make it out like a safety is just a cornerback who plays in the center of the field.

Well I know what you mean and you are correct, but even if you do go by INT's and passes defended, none of them have great numbers

ya michael lewis is such a good player that he was left for dead in the eagles lineup for a young and unproven player in sean considine.... lewis is a hell of a hitter but has no recovery speed and no coverage skills.... roman has been a stop gap safety his whole career so you have no idea what your getting from him...


adrian wilson is a beast enough said, t.holt has not really proven anything....

our secondary should be at least 8 on this list though... chavous is still a manageable safety and atogwe is getting better every snap.... not to mention carter

What? A high number of tackles by a safety is not necessarily a good thing. Look at some of the top defenses and among their top tacklers you'll see 1 DB, but most of the others are LBs and DLs. But when 3/4 of your top tacklers are all DBs, it says you've got a problem - namely that your front seven can't stop the run to save their lives. In that instance, alot tackles aren't indicative of a player having a great year but a defense that's struggling.

I dis-agree with the statement that the Cowboys safties are better than the Cards. Have you ever seen Roy Williams in coverage? You thought Archuletta was bad in coverage well Williams is dreadful. I would rather have Wilson and Holt over Hamlin and Williams any day. Williams was involved in both long pass plays vs the Redskins that cost them that last minute finish where they were up double digits and let Moss get by them not just once but twice on long td's. Chavous is ok but I think we could upgrade, and I actually like Atogwe. Atogwe is young but you cant deny his improvement over the last two years. I would hate to see us just give up on him now when we havnt seen the finished product yet. This should be his make or break year.

the list is about who the best Safeties are, not about the D as a whole and a high tackle number by a S who plays behind a poor front 7 doesn`t mean the S isn`t as good as advertised,he still has to make the tackles himself!

Oh, I was confused for a minute there. I thought that safety rankings were based on the performance of the individual players, not the defensive unit as a whole. When comparing one safety to another, a high number of tackles means the player is making a lot of plays.
