Re: Really! What do we know about Vitt??

From the Rams' official web site...

    Joe Vitt
    -Title: Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers
    -NFL Exp: 26 years
    -With Rams: 4 years

Coaching Highlights:Vitt is entering his second season as assistant head coach/ linebackers coach with the Rams, his second stint with the team, continuing a stellar coaching career that spans more than a quarter century. In 2004, Vitt developed a young linebacker unit that included second-year linebacker and team captain Pisa Tinoisamoa, who led the team in tackles last season.

Vitt joined the Rams from the Kansas City Chiefs in 2004, where he served as linebackers coach from 2000-2003. He is credited for the development of Chiefs’ LBs Mike Maslowski and Scott Fujita, where both have become stalwarts in Kansas City’s defense.

From 1992-94, Vitt was assistant head coach and defensive backs coach with the Rams under legendary coach Chuck Knox with whom he reunited during the franchise’s final three seasons in Los Angeles. Head Coach Mike Martz coached with Vitt on this staff, where he served as offensive assistant from 1992-93 and quarterbacks coach in 1994.

Vitt was defensive backs coach for the Green Bay Packers in 1999, helping a young secondary of rookie CBs Antuan Edwards, Fred Vinson, as well as Mike McKenzie and third-year S Darren Sharper into a formidable unit. The Packers picked off 26 passes that season, the third-highest total in the NFC, and doubling their 1998 output of 13 interceptions.

From 1995-98, Vitt was linebackers’ coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. In his initial campaign in Philadelphia, LB William Thomas made seven interceptions, was named team MVP, and earned his first Pro Bowl berth. In 1998, Vitt’s linebacker corps helped the Eagles lead the NFL in pass defense, allowing only 170.0 passing yards per game.

Vitt spent 10 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (1982-91), the final nine as defensive backs coach after starting his tenure as strength coach. S Kenny Easley and CB Dave Brown were voted to the Pro Bowl under Vitt, with Easley earning NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors from the Associated Press and the Kansas City 101 Club in 1984. Vitt was first acquainted with Knox in Seattle, who served as head coach for the Seahawks from 1983-91.

Vitt, a Syracuse, N.Y. native who played four years at linebacker at Towson State, entered the coaching ranks with the Baltimore Colts as the strength coach from 1979-81.

Vitt is married to Linda, with two children, son, Joe. Jr., and daughter, Jennifer. The Vitts reside in St. Peters, MO.

For me it boils down to something as simple as this:

If Dick Vermeil trusts him, I trust him.
