Red face Reason why we could not score

Reason #1 - It was the white pants. The players were so enamored with the white pants that they could not concentrate.

We will create such an onslaught against humanity that our enemies will take generations before ever thinking of attacking us again.

Yea the white pants were a bit much.

Reason #2. They brought the blitz often and Bulger had no escape options to use.

Reason #3. Bulger held the ball too long.

The OL got creamed hard, it was ugly. I hope this week they can gell playing against a garbage pass rush of the *****.

I think about half the sacks were in a way Bulgers fault, he holds onto the ball too long. Just stop outside of the pocket and throw it away, don't use your sorry arse mobility to try to evade them, because you won't.!

Throwing the ball away is a fine option.

It's also intentional grounding when he has no time to get outside of the tackle box and throws it away.

Someone here said he should have thrown it away instead of taking the safety, well if he had thrown it away from where he was it would have been a safety anyways.

Throwing it away is great if he is on the move and outside the tackle box, but if he's not, it's still a loss and not much of an option.

As long as it is close to a receiver it will be considered a vaild throw.

Ok, but when Bulger has little time to decide and the players are all downfield, chances are he can't get it to them with all of the pressure in his face which would make it intentional grounding.

If he has time and protection and doesn't throw it away (close to a receiver) by all means blame him, but when the Panthers are rollling over our O line like a steamroller it's hard to blame Bulger for not throwing it away.

I am not blaming Bulger, but he is going to be in the same spot this week. I don't think the O line is going to improve during the week, and Linehan will probably continue to call passing plays, so expect to see Marc getting sacked some more unless he figures out a way to get rid of the ball faster.

The niners are no doubt watching game film of how easy it was to stop the offense with a pass rush and they will be doing the same thing this week.

He will not have time and protection with this line and he will have to deal with it.

All good points -- so we obviously can't have more of the same. Clearly this is an opportunity for our coaching staff to earn their salaries. If Bulger can't be protected long enough to complete a 5 or 7 step drop, then don't call those plays. Rather utilize the quick slant, or hitch; use the screen, the shovel pass, or simply run the ball. We were never out of the game last week until halfway through the fourth quarter. If we go three and out passing, what do we have to lose by going three and out running? At least Bulger won't be taking a constant beating, and maybe -- just maybe Jackson finds a lane here and there. When the score is close perhaps it is better to have our O-line firing off the ball and beating on the opposing D-line. Just because a team shows an 8 man front, it doesn't automatically preclude us running the ball.

Bulger was holding the ball way too long which would imply that Ike and Torry couldn't get open on the longer routes. It isn't rocket science -- hit the short routes and run the ball. As the opposing D gradually cheats up ... then try the longer routes. In fairness to Marc, the outcome might have been different were there not so many dropped balls -- quite uncharacteristic of Bruce and Holt ...

I don't think they would fair much better than Bulger, neither of them are mobile, so when you have a steamroller running over your offensive line you don't have much of a chance.
