Okay... were the rest (Bulger, J.Smith, Carriker, etc.) all injured in road games (my goal here is to get a percentage of total major injuries at home, so I'll need both home and away data).

While the research is ongoing, the pattern I suspected is emerging:

1. Majority of major injuries at home; and

2. Lots of leg injuries.

Certainly, this could be the result of bad luck, but you have to also wonder whether the Rams need to take a long hard look (no pun intended) at their current playing surface at the EJD.

I thought part of the pre 2009 season renovations at the EJD included a new playing surface? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have been seeing this pattern myself since soon after the install, and the only conclusion I can come up with is that maybe the sweat (or other bodily fluids) of the players makes the silica sand/rubber infill slick. A lot of slips and falls have taken place, and when you come down funny, that's all she wrote.

Nothing will ever replace natural grass...

this is a good post, in order to get the total number of injuries and trying to find out if the turf plays a part someone needs to research the visiting teams injuries also and put them together. if I remember correctly that Rams game is when Kurt Warner had his head bounced off the turf leading to a concussion and I am sure there is more.will be interesting when all the info is collected.

Until then they where playing on concret with a small layer of rubber on it (almost at least). That was one of the fastest turfs but also bad as to fall on (hard and giving burn damage thats why a lot of players taped up there underarms back then).

But still seems that we have more injuries at home....

Colts and Rams where the last teams to change from Astro turf to field turf.

I'm not able to research now but there's no doubt that we were again decimated by injuries. By the same token, no doubt the coaches are going to take a very careful look at this recurring M A J O R problem. One among several serious situations for our Rams.

Ive actually played on that surface (highschool football game), it seemed fine to me. Springy so as not that bad to fall on and your cleats sink into but not too much as to really snag your feet in. This trend of home injuries does seem to be curious but i tend to think its more bad luck. They've also had knee injuries in away games.
