Report: Kroenke “torn” on Rams future, Devaney could go

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 24, 2011, 9:29 AM EST

    AP

The Rams are 2-12 and the expectation nationally is that coach Steve Spagnuolo will be let go at the end of the season.

Locally, there doesn’t seem to be a consensus on his future. No one seems sure what owner Stan Kroenke will do.

One scenario, according to FoxSports.com’s John Czarnecki, that Spagnuolo could keep his job while G.M. Billy Devaney might go.

Czar writes that Kroenke is “torn” about what to do. It’s possible that both the coach and Devaney could be let go, but Czar says “If only one goes, Devaney could be it.”
That decision would be fraught with issues. Spagnuolo is entering the final year of his contract. So Kroenke would need to bring him back as a lame duck coach or extend his contract.

Plus, hiring a new G.M. with a coach already in place would create a strange dynamic.
Kroenke was a minority owner in St. Louis when Devaney and Spagnuolo were hired. That also seems to make it more likely that changes will be made. Kroenke has yet to truly make his stamp on the organization since taking over last year.

A defeated look of consternation, dissappointment, or even pain. The name derives from the look one often gets when challenged by a large BM.

Devaney should be first to go but I don't think Spags should be retained either unless the new incoming GM is really sold on Spags and can make a strong case for him.

Wed honestly get a terrible GM. Who wants to come into an awkward situation? No one good. It would be a terrible mismanagement. None go or they both go. I choose both go.

However, Profootballtalk really stretched this article. Read the real article. The guy cites the fact that Kroenke has homes in Denver and Malibu...clearly just looking for filler as it has zero relevance. All he said was Devaney and Spags "could" go as everyone reports.

When I first saw this I was more nervous than ever there was going to be something concrete, but its nothing.

Best guidepost to all of this is Kroenke buying the NBA Nuggets and then doing a total housecleaning after one year. He didn't with the NHL Avs because they were already one of the better teams and successful when he assumed ownership. I predict a housecleaning with maybe Demoff staying and most everyone else fired.

Clean house. They both go along with the entire coaching staff. All players start at scratch and earn their position with new regime regardless of contract. Winners stay, losers go.

You know, one good thing about hiring executives and coaches.....there's no such thing as a front office salary cap.

If Stan wants the best, he can open the wallet a little wider to see what he reels in.

Can't say I don't agree with that mentality. Hopefully we can find someone who can replicate the job Harbaugh has done with Alex Smith--and that doesn't necessarily mean that person has to be the Head Coach, but it'd be great to have some evaluate Bradford and put him into a system where he can hopefully shine.

Tear the whole building down and start over. You can't build a masterpiece with a bad foundation under it.

Rams fans should tear Kroenke a new something if anybody still has a job that's not wearing shoulder pads. This time next week Kroenke should have ZERO employees in the front office or on the coaching staff. They are a disgrace to anybody who has ever worn a Rams uniform or rooted for the team.

If anyone goes, everyone goes-clear down to the cronies on the training and equipment staff. The big problem of the last three years is that we've been replacing front office people and coaches piecemeal. Drop everyone in one fell swoop to avoid that problem.

This is the only fact in this story.

NO ONE has spoken to Kroenke.

What the heck is there to be "torn" about. You have the most inept franchise in football. Time to change that culture don't you think?
