Report: Nolan Cromwell a candidate to become WR Coach

According to Jeff Gordon in his live chat today at the PD.

But.... wait.... I thought the Rams were paranoid and trying to bury the past!?!?!? Didn't Cromwell play for the Rams?

All kidding aside, if this deal is completed, he's a very good choice. Not only is he a former Ram, but he's an experienced WR coach, having held that position for years in Seattle.

Re: Report: Nolan Cromwell to become WR Coach

Well it's good we got an experienced coach, especially one who (eventually) figured out how to cure his corps of a rampaging case of the "dropsies". We could use one of those.

Re: Report: Nolan Cromwell to become WR Coach

Its a good hire. Cromwell has been a WR coach for many seasons with Green Bay and Seattle, and obviously being an ex-ram helps.

Weird that a pro bowl DB is coaching WRs though!

He played a position that studied and focused on WRs almost exclusively. Who better to teach our young WRs how to evade DBs than a pro bowler at the position?!

Apparently, its not a done deal, according to the latest from the PD, but they are talking today.

Re: Report: Nolan Cromwell to become WR Coach

I wonder what the situation with Ike is? Spags said he was looking forward to talking to him and as of yet, I have not heard anything. I hope Ike gets a chance to discuss the position, if he's still interested, before it's filled. As for Cromwell, I think he would be a great addition.

Re: Report: Nolan Cromwell to become WR Coach

Cromwell among Rams WR coach candidates

By Jim Thomas
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. _ There are a lot of former Rams lately with an interest in helping coach the team. Add Nolan Cromwell to the list. Cromwell, 55, is talking to coach Steve Spagnuolo about the Rams’ vacant wide receivers coach position, team sources in St. Louis confirmed Monday.

Cromwell played safety for the Rams for 11 seasons (1977-87), earning four Pro Bowl berths. He began his NFL coaching career in 1991 as a special teams and defensive assistant on John Robinson’s Los Angeles Rams staff.

From 1992-97, Cromwell was special teams coach for Green Bay, and then switched to wide receivers coach in ‘98. Following Mike Holmgren to Seattle, Cromwell was the Seahawks’ wide receivers coach from 1999-2007. He has spent the past two seasons as offensive coordinator at Texas A&M, under another former Packers head coach, Mike Sherman.

Spagnuolo is expected to fill the position sometime this week.

Re: Report: Nolan Cromwell a candidate to become WR Coach

Probably a good option. Not only does Cromwell have links to the franchise, but he has also coached WCO receivers. That would probably be the biggest knock on Isaac Bruce as a receivers coach for us; under the old system, receivers weren't taught to press for yards after the catch the way they're expected to in our current offense.

Re: Report: Nolan Cromwell a candidate to become WR Coach

Must admit I'm ecstatic over this possible hire- Nolan Cromwell was my childhood idol- I played safety in h.s. and wore number 21 in every sport I've ever played competitively. His framed jersey and a personal note hangs proudly in my sports room. I hope he's hired; he has a long track record as a coach and was a cerebral player back in the day.

Re: Report: Nolan Cromwell a candidate to become WR Coach

I really like Cromwell, always have. He's done a good job with a whole lot of not much in Seattle. At the present, we could only dream of that kind of consistency. He, like Mr. Bruce, would be a welcome addition in my eyes.

Re: Report: Nolan Cromwell a candidate to become WR Coach

My only disappointment with Cromwell was the 'dropped interception' which possibly would have helped the Rams to beat Pittsburgh in that fateful Super Bowl.....

It would be good to see him in Rams gear again!
