Report: Rams to Release Claiborne
From KFFL:
Rams | Claiborne expected to be released
Sun, 26 Feb 2006 15:55:46 -0800
The St. Louis Rams are expected to release LB Chris Claiborne sometime this week as they begin what's expected to be a massive retooling process on defense.

Re: Report: Rams to Release Claiborne
Not sure if Claiborne got a fair shot, but he didn't exactly light it up when he had his chances.

That's actually what I find more interesting in this blurb.

Dang it. I'm not happy about this. Why Claiborne? Release the 34yr old Coakley. AHHH!!!

Re: Report: Rams to Release Claiborne
I have a feeling Coakley won't make the team.
As for the Claiborne report, not sure where KFFL got it, but ususally they only pass along reports from "credible" sources.

Re: Report: Rams to Release Claiborne
Brian Billick and Ravens management is on record as saying Ray Lewis isn't going anywhere, and I don't know what John Abraham has to do with our MLB situation.

Re: Report: Rams to Release Claiborne
He's a DE. Perhaps, he could play OLB in a 3-4, but he's no MLB.

Re: Report: Rams to Release Claiborne
I was sure they were going to give Claiborne another year...or at least wait until they had drafted his replacement. It's not like I was that keen on Chris myself, but I have trouble understanding this move. Free agency doesn't have much to offer at middle linebacker, and if we are planning to run some 3-4 we need two of them. Why not wait until we've definitely got the replacements? Does anyone know if this is going to help the cap that much?

Re: Report: Rams to Release Claiborne
What's interesting about this is that Linehan was with Minnesota at the same time as Claiborne. Perhaps he wasn't all too impressed with Chris then, and does not want him anchoring his defense now.
Just a thought.
