Report: Rams shopped Isaiah Pead during NFL draft

The St. Louis Rams' backfield contains too many cooks after Les Snead drafted running back Tre Mason in the third round last week. The Rams reportedly tried to thin the herd during the 2014 NFL Draft. According to plugged-in reporter Dan Pompei of Bleacher Report, running back Isaiah Pead was the subject of trade talks.

Shopping the former second-round pick makes sense for the Rams. Zac Stacy proved last season he is the starter and can handle the bulk of the carries. Mason presumably can be the change-of-pace runner that Pead was supposed to be coming out of Cincinnati. Daryl Richardson will likely be the third option.

After the Rams failed to ship Pead out of town, the running back -- picked ahead of the likes of Lavonte David -- will be fighting for his roster spot this summer.

The 50th overall selection in 2012 has just 17 carries for 75 yards, 14 receptions and 15 kick returns in two seasons. He might be given a chance to remain in St. Louis if he can prove his worth on special teams. It's likely, however, Pead's seen his last down in the Rams' backfield.

I would have taken a 7th round pick for him.

    That's just hurtful.

Maybe he can get some reps behind this line in preseason and get some trade value. Who knows maybe someone will lose a back and take a flyer on Pead. If we keep four I have DRich and Cunningham as the last two.

It's worse than that for Pead. I believe the author has mistakenly left Cunningham out of this equation. Pead might be the #5 back at this point.

With all the talent in this rookie class of DBs, I think that will be impossible.

Given his earlier indiscretions shortly after he was chosen, he has no one but himself to blame. I tend to avoid generalizations, but after Mardy Gilyard and now Isaiah Pead UCincinnati may not be our best school to find prospects. Are you listening Les?

I still don't think Pead got his chance, but at this point how could we keep him?

    #1 Stacy
    #2 Mason
    #3 Cunningham
#4 Reynolds vs DRICH vs Pead ...

Reynolds and Pead play special teams, whereas DRich is probably the best runner of the 3. It'll be interesting.

I think we just found out what is more important.

Re: Report: Rams Shopped Isaiah Pead During Draft

I heard that Snead tried to get a 7th round pick in 2028 but there were no takers.

Meanwhile, with Richardson waived, Pead may actually still have a shot to make the roster. Keep the faith Pead fans!

My question is, why didn't they shop Richardson and cut Pead? Seems to me, he'd be the one a team would trade for.

    Just my two cents.

What makes anyone think that they didnt offer Richardson around? Once the Mason pick was made, Helen Keller could have seen that Richardson would be available dirt cheap. I bet no one bothered to ask.

Well, what makes me think it, is I've seen no evidence of it. Certainly a possibility.
