Rivera lost my vote today

I was not impressed with my first look at the Bears defense this year.

After being smoked by the panthers for 434 yards today, I am second guessing my vote for Rivera as my HC candidate.

The Bears defense looked average at best today.

Yes, they were the number one rated defense during the regular season but you have to get the job done in the playoffs or you go home.

Are u serious?? You are basing everything on one game. The type of person he is, his philosophy, his demeanor, personal choices, style...everything on one game. Wow, am I glad you are not doing the interviewing for the job. Especially considering the head coach is not 100% responsible for game planning a defensive game plan.

One game for a young coach of any type takes an experience like this and learns from it. It does not become his identity. Relax, now that he is available, we shall see what Shaw thinks of him. Seriously, I will still take him over any OC out there that is available.

Re: Rivera lost my vote today

This is exactly what is wrong with a lot of the speculation and analysis regarding coaches. Is rivera a different coach tonight than he was 24 hours ago just because the bears defense got torched today? Of course not. Is bellichick now a lousy coach because new england lost yesterday? Not a chance. Is dungy awful because his team failed to show up in a home playoff game?

Execution guys. the panthers outplayed the bears today on the field, they didnt outcoach them. On two long tds the bears dbs fell down and smith caught long balls. is that the coaches fault? No, just bad luck, bad footing or whatever you want to call it. Steven Smith is a hall of fame receiver, delhome had some time and he made some terrific throws. Give credit where credit is due.

Regardless of what you think of rivera, nothing that happened today should change your view. If you want to use the "what did you do today only" rationale than the only coach you would want for the rams would be whoever wins the superbowl this year.

Re: Rivera lost my vote today

how can a man lose your guys votes when the the bears defense fell victim to tons of injuries this game plus bad field position all day... yes to a certain extent you have to give some blame to rivera but not all of it....look at lovie 3 years ago against carolina... he gave up a ton of yards against carolina and boy i would of loved for him to come back the year after

Well...even with the injuries, they still never covered Smith well at all.

yah. forget the amazing year that defense strung together. that means nothing. all that matters is they couldn't cover smith. rivera is a terrible coach.

(hope you could pick up the sarcasm).

Re: Rivera lost my vote today

Is Mangini now a questionable candidate for the Jets after his team laid an egg against Denver? How did Childress get a coaching gig after the Eagles did so poorly this year? C'mon. These knee-jerk reactions really are too much. Besides, from what I saw, the two touchdown catches Smith had both came about by blown coverages by the players, not poor scheming.

Re: Rivera lost my vote today

Again, steve smith is one of the top receivers in the game today. notwithstanding the slips by the dbs today, does that mean if a team cant cover him the coordinator stinks. does that mean that every time torry holt lights someone up the coordinator is no good? The players, not the coaches, have to make the plays. There is a reason why some of these guys are superstars, they are awfully tough to stop.

Do you think the steelers defensive coordinator was brilliant today or do you think that the steelers defense overwhelmed the colts pass blocking? A little of both i am sure, but its NEVER all on the coaches, good or bad.
