    Rivers confirms.Will meet with Rams

    Rivera to meet with Rams

    </SPAN>

    LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) - Ron Rivera did such a good job this season molding the Chicago Bears' defence and helping the team reach the NFL playoffs that he could be on the verge of a big promotion.
    Rivera, the Bears' defensive co-ordinator, acknowledged Wednesday he'll meet with the St. Louis Rams about their head coaching vacancy this week. There are other teams, perhaps the Packers, also interested in talking to Rivera, who helped develop the league's stingiest defence in his second season in the post.
    "There is one confirmed," Rivera said of teams interested in speaking with him.
    He mentioned the Rams but wouldn't identify the others. There are eight vacancies in the NFL.
    A linebacker on the Bears' only Super Bowl team of 1985, Rivera's coaching resume includes two seasons in charge of defensive quality control with the Bears, five years as linebackers coach of the Eagles and the last two under Lovie Smith as defensive co-ordinator.
    The Bears won the NFC North and earned a first-round bye. They will play Tampa Bay, the New York Giants or Carolina on the weekend of Jan. 14-15 at Soldier Field.
    Rivera, whose unit surrendered just 12.6 points per game and was ranked as the top defence until losing that distinction in the season finale at Minnesota, got a big-time push from his best player Wednesday.
    "He deserves to be a head coach," said linebacker Brian Urlacher. "He's a smart guy, he knows what he's doing.
    "He gets guys motivated. We'd love to keep him here, obviously. He's fun to play for, but he needs to be a head coach. He does all the right things. He says all the right things. When he gives us that little speech before the game on Saturday night, he doesn't say a lot, but what he says we take to heart and listen to."
    The Rams, who let Mike Martz go, could be taking an approach the Bears did two years ago. That's when they hired Smith to be their coach after he'd been the defensive co-ordinator in St. Louis.
    "I talked with coach (Smith) on a number of occasions," Rivera said. "I think the neat thing about it is he does have a lot of insight into the place."

    Riveras a tough..He also looks like he wont take any talking back.I also think he could kick TOs butt in any locker room tussle.Hes young, has the experiance.I say we chance him. We have the O ready.Plus a new offence will have about a 100 less plays to remeber, and still leaves a 100.

    I don't know much about Al Saunders, but I really don't see us bringing in an offensive guy. I'd be really surprised.

    al saunders would be an improvement over martz in a variety of ways... look at the way he manages the clock, he can run the ball down someones throat and then with no receivers he still made trent green look awesome..... rivera would be a great fit for the rams too....

    They should bring in Norv Turner as OC. He runs pretty much the same style offense.

    Rivera is going to be a hell of a coach. I'd love to see him on the sidelines.
    The Roman and The Prince. Playmakers until the end.
