    Rodger Saffold

    Rodger Saffold - T - Rams

The National Football Post's Dan Pompei reports the Rams are not interested in trading RT Rodger Saffold.
Saffold, a 35-game starter at left tackle, was initially a bit disgruntled over the team's decision to move him to right tackle after the signing of LT Jake Long. Things have reportedly "calmed down," and that showed with Saffold's decision to show up to voluntary workouts last week. Pompei adds that the "expectation" is Saffold will be a Ram for a "long time."

Here is the exact write-up from Pompei's article...

*With the 16th and 22nd pick in the first round, the Rams are in prime position to make a draft day deal. And they are interested, both in moving up and potentially moving down. What they are not interested in doing is dealing Roger Saffold. The offensive tackle was rumored to be disgruntled after being moved to right tackle from left, but things have calmed down now. The expectation inside the organization is Saffold will be a part of the team for a long time.

If Saffold embraces the RT spot, plays well, and makes a reasonable contract demand at the end of the season, I'd be fine with that. I don't necessarily expect it to play out that way, though.

The operative phrase is "reasonable contract demand", because economics will play heavily into how the O-line will look in 2014. Figure Jake Long at premium $, Scott Wells and Harvey Dahl at high level money due to them being FA signings, Saffold will have to fit the budget. Let's just hope we get through this year healthy and go from there. Fortunately we appear to have depth.

    Go Rams!

    Re: Rodger Saffold

Right now I seriously don't see Saffold being anywhere near the top 10 LTs in 2012--there was even serious doubt in 2012 if he was really up to the job. Plus he had all of 2012 to prove the nay-sayers wrong. But circumstances, lack of talant and a host of other issues, convienced the Rams' to acquire J. Long--had Safford proved his worth at LT, as a business point of view and a team building progression, the Rams FO/coaching staff could have found other creative means to spend $$$ that it took to acqire J. Long in the first place. The 2013 season is Saffords opportunity to prove to the NFL if he is an elite RT, or just another body filling a hole

    Rodger Saffold - T - Rams

Coach Jeff Fisher says the Rams have "no issues" with RT Rodger Saffold.
Saffold would rather be traded than shifted to right tackle, but apparently isn't making trouble at Rams OTAs. "He’s having fun, working out, in really good shape," Fisher said. Unless the Rams get an offer they can't refuse, Saffold should be bookending Jake Long come Week 1.
