They had to find room for Pettis and this must be how they did it.

I think after Quinn Ojinnaka came out of the Redskins game looking ok they must have thought it best to stash Rok on IR

My guess is Watkins was going to be bothered by that ankle all year and it made sense to sit him. He was struggling when he was healthy. This is not that bad IMO, he can work on his upper body strength he will be back next year he was not ready to start this year and it showed.

That sucks. I was hoping he'd come back around.
Of course, the Rams will have the option of bringing back one IR player during the course of the season under the new rules. I presume Scott Wells is the prime candidate for that exception, but perhaps Rok could be Plan B if Wells' injury lingers.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

If I'm correct you have to designate the player prior to placing him on the IR and that spot is taken by Wells. So Rok is gone for the season, it's a shame.

Goodness gracious, finished for the year before he really got started. I was excited about having this big rookie in our OL squad.
I hope he gets well and returns stronger and more determined yet.

Re: Rokevious Watkins on injured reserve, ending his season.
Now I don't know nothing about nothing, but why can't the NFL have an injury system more like the MLB. In baseball, "injured reserve" could be 15 days or 60 days. Why couldn't the NFL have a....oh I don't know...say 2-week IR and a 6-week IR. Granted the NFL doesn't have the minor league system like MLB where players can move up and down fairly seamlessly, but then again, maybe they should.
I don't know......just thinking while I'm typing."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: Rokevious Watkins on injured reserve, ending his season.
The two reasons I can think of are 1) player safety. The NFL and NFLPA don't want teams rushing back players from injuries that need a long time to heal and hurting themselves more. Not the best explanation, but it's a reason.
2) The NFLPA doesn't want it because it creates jobs. When players get put on the IR, they still get paid. Meanwhile, another player is added to fill their spot, meaning as players fill the IR, out of work players find jobs for the rest of the season, increasing the overall revenue to players, and increasing the amount of union dues being paid to the NFLPA.

Re: Rokevious Watkins on injured reserve, ending his season.
It's understandable that you don't want to rush players back, but now all that happens is that teams get depleted with injuries and stash players who can't play on their inactive lists. This ends up meaning that players who may not be ready end up playing and possibly getting hurt, or starters end up having to play more and get hurt.
With a DL-like list, jobs would still be created, as teams still have to fill the gaps created by putting players on the 2-week IR. Teams aren't going to spend any more or any less based on the IR rules. And if they do, it's a matter of tens of thousands of dollars, not any more. Salary cap is salary cap.
Not a reason in the world why they shouldn't keep expanding this IR with return to a full on DL system or expanded rosters.I believe!
