Rookie's Tackle Helped Nail Down Rams' Victory In Detroit

Rookie’s tackle helped nail down Rams’ victory in Detroit

His contribution might have gotten lost somewhat in the St. Louis Rams’ euphoria after RB Steven Jackson’s dramatic touchdown run and the 17-10 victory Sunday in Detroit, but rookie K.C. Asiodu was more than a bit player in the result that snapped a 17-game losing streak.

After Jackson scored with 1:38 to go, Josh Brown sent the kickoff down the right side, where it was fielded by Derrick Williams at the 3-yard line. Williams cut slightly toward the middle and briefly appeared to have a wide-open lane as he gathered speed. But Asiodu jumped into the gap and brought Williams down at the 23-yard line.

“It’s always good to contribute a little bit,” said Asiodu, a linebacker from Central Oklahoma. “The other guys did a good job of pushing him out, and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. I was more than happy to make that play for us and our team.”

    Notes & quotes:

*G Jacob Bell and WR/KR Danny Amendola sat out practice today after sustaining concussions Sunday. Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Bell passed his neuro exam earlier in the day, however, and will practice Wednesday. Amendola still was experiencing some symptoms , so his test was moved to Wednesday.

*DE C.J. Ah You (ankle) did some individual work.

*G Richie Incognito (foot) is scheduled to shed his orthopedic boot Monday.

*Here’s Spagnuolo on the newest Ram, CB Danny Gorrer, who was signed off the Saints’ practice squad: “(GM) Billy (Devaney) and his staff and (director of pro personnel) Mike Williams had an eyeball on him for quite some time. We thought this was the time to do it. We’ve got the bye week, get him in, run around a little bit and maybe he can learn the system. We’ve got a lot to find out about him.”

*Here’s Gorrer on his strengths: “I believe I’m a cover corner. I’m a fast guy, and I try to bring a lot to the table. I can come up and support the run. Whatever the team needs, I’m going to try to give my all.”

    All for now…

One of the best tackles I've seen in my time. Great play!
