The Green Bay Packers have arguably the worst personnel in terms of their secondary, have one quality linebacker on their roster, and have a decent defensive line. Also keep in mind they had a pretty poor offense, including a quarterback who put up a career year in turnovers.
Prior to being the Packers DC, he spent five years as the coordinator in Miami, producing one of the best defenses in the league over that span of time.
I'm not surprised Bates is still left, because he's a very good coach, IMO.
