Round Two: What Does The Future Hold For Spagnuolo, Devaney?

What does the future hold for Spagnuolo, Devaney?

    BY ROGER HENSLEY
    Monday, November 21, 2011

QUESTION: The Rams have clearly taken a step backward this year. Do you think Steve Spagnuolo and/or Billy Devaney will be on the hot seat at seasonís end if this team doesnít dramatically turn things around for the rest of this season?

    JIM THOMAS

Certainly. When youíre 2-8 during your third year in a program, when you have a 3-time Pro Bowler at running back and a No. 1 overall draft pick at quarterback, there should be better results than 10-32 over 2 1/2 seasons.

    BRYAN BURWELL

I donít know if they will be on the hot seat, but they certainly should be. I donít think their job security is an issue that needs to be agonized over repeatedly over the final six weeks, either. Just let it all play out and make the evaluations at the proper time, which is the off-season when all the information is in.

    JEFF GORDON

A coach never wants to be 2-8 in Year 3 of his regime. Injuries are a factor in this failure, but not an iron-clad excuse. This team has suffered major regression and faces a major overhaul after the season with so many veterans with expiring contracts. Everything about this season to date screams that change is needed. If the Rams continue their current downward arc and refuse to chart a new course for 2012, how will the franchise sell any tickets?

At the very least some of the coaching staff has to go, (offensive line coach). IMO, unless you can get a proven winner to come in here and coach this team such as Cowher, Gruden, Fisher or even Billick I don't know that getting rid of Spags and hiring another coordinator with no HC experience does any good for the franchise. What this team needs is a tough no nonsense coach with a proven track record to get things back on track.
