Re: Salas waived by the Patriots

The Patriots have reportedly waived WR Greg Salas, RB Lex Hilliard and LB Mike Rivera.
Salas' release is a surprise, less than three weeks after the Pats reunited him with ex-Rams coordinator Josh McDaniels for the cost of a conditional 2015 draft pick. Salas must not have shown much in practices, as he had yet to see the field in the first two games.

Why would we? We traded him, he will find a team.

I'm pretty sure this pick was not conditional, anyone know for sure?

He was traded because he was the odd man out in our WR battle. I don't think that has changed, with our WRs doing well in the first two weeks. All except Quick and he is a high draft pick, and a completely different type then Salas.

    I think you are right:

The Patriots sent a late-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft to the Rams as compensation. The fact that the Rams were willing to wait two and a half years to get any compensation for Salas suggests that St. Louis was planning to waive him anyway.

I like Salas. He has some upside. Someone will pick him up.

I'm sick and tired of other great coaches taking advantage of us!

Re: Salas waived by the Patriots

Salas clearly haven't come back from his injury as good as he once was. He showed real potential last season. Josh McDaniels must have thought so too, giving up a draft pick to bring him in. But he just haven't returned as the same player, I guess. Maybe he haven't been as committed in his rehabbing and fighting his way back, as we have seen DX and Donnie Avery do so many times?

    You may be right.

Targeted five times in the preseason, Salas caught three passes for 14 yards. The staff couldn't have been happy in the preseason opener against Indianapolis when on a fourth-and-2 gamble from the St. Louis 32, Salas didn't run his route deep enough and was tackled after a 1-yard gain.

There were times on the practice field at Rams Park when he missed a hot read, ran the wrong route or wasn't physical enough in the red zone.
Donnie Avery is back though he is looking very good with the Colts.

Re: Salas waived by the Patriots

His best chance to catch on was probably on a less than stellar unit of receivers under a coordinator who preferred him. It's unfortunate for Greg, hopefully he gets another opportunity somewhere.
