Re: Salas waived by the Patriots
New England cut him because of their new emphasis on the tight end being a much bigger part of their offense. If you've followed talk about the Pats as of late, you've seen that even Wes Welker has seen his workload and productivity diminish, so NE cutting Salas isn't an indictment of his (lack of) skill. I told you so's aren't in order here.

Re: Salas waived by the Patriots
I don't know if it's a I told you so moment are not. I'm not sure the TE has anything to do with it. Looks like they really like Edelman. He took reps from Welker.
Maybe Salas could not push him for time. With much media attention focused on veteran Wes Welker's decreased role and Julian Edelman's rise on the wide receiver depth chart, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said Tuesday that Edelman has earned the playing time.
Welker found himself as the No. 3 option behind Brandon Lloyd and Edelman on Sunday in the Patriots' 20-18 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
In his weekly conference call with reporters, McDaniels praised Edelman's versatility and said the Patriots rely on him in several packages for his speed and playmaking ability.

How silly of the Patriots to cut the.....let me see; what was the phrase again?......."Welker's replacement".

Deion Branch - WR - Patriots
Patriots re-signed WR Deion Branch.
Branch will take Greg Salas' roster spot as the fifth receiver, adding experience with Aaron Hernandez sidelined for a month. Don't expect a fantasy impact even in deeper leagues. No longer separating from defensive backs, Branch failed to impress in training camp and managed to clear 50 yards just once in the final seven games of the 2011 season.

Re: Salas waived by the Patriots
Oh by the way the Saints cut CB Jerome Murphy, he now is on the Lions... Maybe our staff has a clue after all.

Weird. Our staff actually knows what it's doing?

Re: Salas waived by the Patriots
Trent Dilfer and another analyst (forget who) said that NE runs more two tight end sets than anyone in the league AND throws to them over 60% of the time. And as proof of their interest in a tight-end oriented offense, they wasted no time in signing Kellen Winslow, Jr. to a deal a day after Hernandez went down. All of this obviously diminishes Welker's role to a degree.

Re: Salas waived by the Patriots
I guess a few of you were a bit premature in your gloating.
It's pretty obvious to me that the Patriots like Salas, seems they have simply decided that they don't need him this year, which is probably best for Salas anyway, since he'll get a chance to come back fully recovered next year.
And my guess is, it was his injury and not his skill that got him traded in the first place.Last edited by Fortuninerhater; -09-19-2012 at 11:12 PM.

Re: Salas waived by the Patriots
You're right. I'm just wondering how this is still relevant to the Rams.

Re: Salas waived by the Patriots
As I read through these pages, it appears the relevance to the Rams is not due to a player on another team, but rather the coaching staff on this team. In the first go-around with this topic, there was no shortage of fans who proclaimed the Rams coaching staff as fools for letting go of the next great WR. Now, it appears the coaching staff was right as we has an additional draft pick and our trading partner have a guy who couldn't make their roster.

Re: Salas waived by the Patriots
We knew we were going to lose someone when they drafted to wide outs this season.
For me it was just a surprise that Gibson beat anyone out, of course, we're all glad to have him on the team now.
Good luck to Greg Salas though!
