Sapp & Duke on Chris Long?
Dont now if any of you caught this last night on NFL total access.
But Sapp and Dukes were saying that Chris will not developed as a good
right D end.. They both said he could not get any pass rush on the
nfls left tackles. They also both agreed that he would be better
off on the right side with less talent on that end..
For me, I dont know how there so sure about this just after his Rook year.
They may be right, but I hope he proves them wrong..

Re: Sapp & Duke on Chris Long?
You're right. Don't be sure after his rookie season. He was one of the better rookie pass rushers....so meh.

Re: Sapp & Duke on Chris Long?
Okay...
So how many sacks will he get when he runs a stunt and goes inside against a guard?
And how many sacks will he get when Will Witherspoon blitzes from his side and forces the OT to make a decision?
And how many sacks will he get against teams with bad LTs?
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Sapp & Duke on Chris Long?
Yeah I saw it, it's on NFL.com now. The main thing they were saying is that Spags will put the players in their best place to succeed. I thought it was a bit premature to declare that Long won't be a good right end, but if he is better going against slower right tackles, why does it matter if he gets 10 sacks on the left side instead of the right. Granted the left is the QBs blind side, but a sack is a sack. That being sad I believe a lot of people underestimate Chris' athleticsm. I have no doubt that RE or LE, Chris Long will turn into a beast that o coordinators have to roll their protection towards.

Re: Sapp & Duke on Chris Long?
l also hope that Sapp and Pukes are wrong about Long; however, what they have said dovetails rather ominously with some of the comments Haslett made when he said that Chris is too slow and has too short of arms to develop as a top echelon-type of player.
Again, let's hope that all of these folks are just whistlin' Dixie and Long shows that he can, in fact, play on the right side.
WHAT SAY YE?

Re: Sapp & Duke on Chris Long?
Sigh...
C. Long has talent otherwise he wouldn't have made it to the top of his game in college. Placed on an Island without scheming toward his talents or getting him into possitions to make a difference will have it where he has games where he will good well and others he does poorly.
So these experts--well alot of what they yap about don't take into account the game within the game. A 360pound guard or tackle likely would neutralize C. Long on a head-to-head battle.

Re: Sapp & Duke on Chris Long?
It's all about the motor. He has it and kind of reminds me of Grant Wistrom.

Re: Sapp & Duke on Chris Long?
Are we talking about Warren Sapp? Sorry for the ignorance, I don't get NFL network
If we are, who cares what he thinks? The man's a clown. Remember when he was saying that the NFL treated the players like slaves? Funny how he works for them now...

Re: Sapp & Duke on Chris Long?
Good point laram0, he's very much like Grant Winstrom, only his floor and ceiling are much higher in my mind. That said, I think that he would be better suited on the left side, where it's more about the power game rather than on the right. By the same token, Little has always seemed to be the better right end anyway, as he's our best lineman, the quickest and most reliant on that quickness.
I guess we'll just have to see what Spags does with the whole thing, in Spags I trust.
