Afternoon Session

-The afternoon workout belonged to new special teams coach Bob Ligashesky. The practice was special teams only and last for about an hour and a half.

-I haven’t mentioned this before, but Ligashesky is a one man wrecking crew of a special teams coach. He is in total control of his guys and they all seem to respond to his style. He yells, but the yelling isn’t the kind that would make you mad, it’s the kind that would motivate you.

-Here’s a guess…The likes of Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson and Marshall Faulk absolutely love the idea of the special teams practice. They don’t have to and didn’t attend Saturday’s afternoon workout.

-Most of the time was spent working on coverage units. On one end of the field, a group lined up in punt formation and snapped to punter Reggie Hodges while the other end worked on getting off the line against blockers in punt formation.

-Dwight Anderson and Michael Stone have good potential as gunner. Anderson has great speed and Stone has a nice combination of speed and size.

-Tight end Erik Jensen was in attendance at the workout, but he sat out in street clothes along with running back Dusty McGrorty. Not sure what the extent of an injury to Jensen is, but he did take some time in the morning practice adjusting his knee brace.

-Watching a special teams only practice is interesting if for no other reason than some of the drills that are done. To end the practice, the Rams equipment staff broke out some volleyballs for punt block drills. Members of the coaching staff lightly kicked the volleyballs while the players practiced knocking the ball forward, scooping it up and scoring.
