Good news indeed! I am very thankful that we have made this move and look forward to Saunders impact in the off-season i.e. the draft. GoRams!

While i appreciate that this is good news, i still contend that unless saunders is going to dramatically improve our offensive line play, i dont think this will translate into any material difference in the win column.

Good health and better talent on the offensive line is the most important factor to the rams success on offense in 2008.

    "Welcome back, Coach Saunders! :r"

    Saunders Named O.C.
    Wednesday, January 30, 2008

    By Nick Wagoner

In search of a boost for their struggling offense, the Rams brought back a familiar face Wednesday, hiring Al Saunders as offensive coordinator.

Saunders fills the opening left by since departed Greg Olson, who took the quarterbacks coach position with Tampa Bay after he was re-assigned in St. Louis.

Saunders signed a three-year contract with the Rams and will inherit all play calling duties as well as handling the majority of the offensive game planning on a weekly basis.

Rams fans and players will remember Saunders from his two-year stint in St. Louis in 1999 and 2000 as the receivers coach for head coaches Dick Vermeil and Mike Martz.

Check back to stlouisrams.com for complete details this evening.

Well GC, isn't Saunders here to 'dramatically improve our offensive line play' along with every other aspect of the offense? I think that's what it's all about and that's why we were so eager to hire him in the 1st place. Of course, that may not happen but at least it stands as a an objective and as a plan to implement immediately.

As for good health, it just HAS to be better than 2007, almost on its own ... but I'm sure the Rams coaches will address that as another key priority.

Ditto on better talent on the OL.

:bash: I'm feeling great about the challenges / changes in Coach Saunders' To Do List.

Rams offensive players must be feeling excited about this! :r And as we had anticipated, Coach Saunders must be too.

    Re: Saunders is done deal

Point #1: I'm very happy about this hiring. This is the next-best thing to a HC change. Saunders is the perfect fit to utilize the talent the Rams have on offense.

Point #2: No, this is not the end of SLOP. I chalk this up to the Front Office doing the right thing for the team. Whether Linehan would have let Olson go in favor of Saunders on his own... who knows? The real question, though, is this.... if the Rams offense plays well, does that mean Linehan is the long-term solution at HC, or does it mean Al Saunders is? There's a problem I'd like the Rams to have - winning games and wondering who deserves the credit!

Point #3: Okay... I called this one the day Joe Gibbs retired (look it up!). Is someone finally gonna give me some love on this one?
