Say it ain't Suh! Players pick him over Bradford
Say it ain't Suh! Players pick him over Bradford
BY JIM THOMAS | Posted: Wednesday, January 12, 2011 1:41 pm
The first of the rookie of the year awards has been decided, and in an upset, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has gotten the nod over St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford by The Sporting News.
The Sporting News decided its winner via a poll of more than 600 NFL players. Suh received 260 votes to 221 for Bradford. New England cornerback Devin McCourty was a very distant third with 49 votes.
In a midseason player poll by The Sporting News, albeit one involving fewer polled players, Bradford had been a landslide winner as the top rookie.
Bradford was joined by teammate and left tackle Rodger Saffold on The Sporting News all-rookie team.
In other Sporting News awards:
_ New England QB Tom Brady was offensive player of the year.
_ Green Bay LB Clay Matthews was defensive player of the year.
_ Philadelphia QB Michael Vick was comeback player of the year.
_ Atlanta's Mike Smith was coach of the year.
_ Atlanta offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey was named coordinator of the year.
About 50 NFL coaches and executives were polled for the coach of the year and coordinator of the year. The other awards were based on player voting.

Re: Say it ain't Suh! Players pick him over Bradford
My question is, has Suh helped his team win games as much as Bradford did with the Rams?

This isn't the one that's well known is it? I thought the offical one was by AP.

Re: Say it ain't Suh! Players pick him over Bradford
The Lions & Suh finished the season strong, going 4-0 & beating some good teams(TB,GB). The Rams & Bradford did not, 1-3, beating only the whiners. Not all Suh's doing or Sam's fault, of course, but it's not surprising that the final quarter season is what got remembered.

My reaction? Who cares.
Suh had a great rookie year. Arguably the greatest rookie DT in decades.
In the end, though, no DT will have the impact that Bradford will have on the Rams.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Truth be told, players don't watch too much of other teams around the league, they have their own job and games to worry about. Most probably saw Suh was on the pro bowl roster and figured hey, he must have had the greatest impact.

Maybe the Sunday night game had something to do with it...

Re: Say it ain't Suh! Players pick him over Bradford
The AP award is generally regarded as the official award, but it's also divided into offense and defense. So barring a major upset, Bradford will win the offensive award and Suh will take the defensive one. They won't be in direct competition, as they were in the Sporting News vote.
I can understand why Rams fans are upset, since Bradford's a Ram and St. Louis made a bigger turnaround from last year than Suh's Lions did. I think some would probably argue, though, that wins and losses are a team accomplishment and not necessarily the result of one player. When you look at individual production, what Suh did this season would have been outstanding for a top veteran talent. For a rookie, it's simply out of this world.

this isn't the offical award so no one should care. Its the ap award that's "offical"

If Bradford had been lights out on that Sunday Night game, I have little doubt that he would have won.

Sports awards that are based on opinions don`t mean jack to me..just my beloved Rams playing good football, winning games,NFC West titles and Lombardi trophies.
Rams delighted with their selection of Bradford..Detroit delighted with their selection of Suh.
