Say a prayer of the health of travis fisher..

with butler out, it becomes even more critical that fisher is healthy. I am not so much worried about depth at the #4, 5 and 6 spots as much as i am worried about what happens if god forbid fisher goes down, leaving us with no one proven to line up against the other teams big guns. Lets hope for the best.

:1: Entering his fourth year with Rams, Fisher has developed very well.

You're right, GC, he is currently the mainstay at CB and last year was not kind to him injuries wise. I would think he has his sights set pretty clear on what to accomplish this season -- he hits hard and seems to be aggressive enough as well as consistent.

CB Fisher & FS Archuleta. CB Bartell & SS J. Carter. LET'S DO IT! :angryram:

Let's see how likely it is to acquire a veteran CB at this point.

Amen to that! While I think our front seven will make a difference in the play of the secondary this year, losing Fisher might be too much to overcome. As it stands now, we still need to have someone elevate their game and make a difference in Butler's abscence. Hope for the best is really all we can do at this point with so many questions in the secondary.

While it may not be necessary to go after a veteran cornerback now with Butler sidelined, you have to feel the Rams would either dip into free agency or make a trade for a corner if both of our starters went down. Hopefully Fisher can not only stay healthy, but pick up the slack of Butler not being on the field and be a turnover machine.

Eventually yes. Bartell is physically superior to Groce, especially with the bigger receivers. However, Groce is much better than Bartell with regards to technique (currently). Hopefully, Bartell is a quick learner. His Wonderlic was in the top 10 and IIRC he had the highest score among corners. So maybe he (like Fitz) can translate textbook smarts into playbook smarts. If so, he should up and running by maybe week 4 or 5. Personally, I just can't get comfy with Groce as a starter.

Great point, Mike! If the D-line can creat pressure, Butler's injury will not be as significant. Nothing makes a CB look better than they are like an outstanding pass rush.

I think we should work on getting our defense more physical.

This is where the Rams stood years ago when Williams was being moved to safety ... nothing changed over the off season to expect better ... changing the focus to better LB play or better front line play doesn't change the fact every year I dread seeing the bigger, taller, stronger WRs going downfield against the Rams' secondary ... you can only hope that this year is the breakout year for someone ...

    shoulda signed Ty Law.

ZigZag had his offseason checklist. He never was able to fill in a name into the DB spot. And now in hindsight that was the worst position to ignore. Time to keep our eyes peeled for some veteren cuts. Did Bobby Taylor ever sign with anybody?
